Beginner
I'm looking to build a PC primarily aimed at browsing, watching HD videos & Music and occasional video editing using Vegas pro (Not really a deal breaker if we can't fullfill this). My old PC's mobo is done and hence assembling a new one. So I've already got a Monitor, KB, Mice, CD RW drive - Only looking for Mobo, CPU, RAM, HDD, PSU & Cabinet at the moment and will be upgrading in stages. And here comes the template

Q: What is your budget?
16 K - Can be increased if required

Q: What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
It's done unfortunately

Q: Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
Monitor - Samsung Syncmaster (A Normal VGA one and will be upgrading at a later date)
Input Device - Logitech EX110
Optical drive - LG CD RW Drive (Will be upgrading to Blu-ray RW in 3 months)

Q: Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo
Motherboard - GA-G33M-S2H
HDD - 1 TB Seagate SATA II
RAM - 1 * 2 GB DDR II
Cabinet - ?? - Need your guys help on this
PSU - ?? - Need your guys help on this
Q: Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
Yes, will upgrade the following within 6 months
Optical - Blu-ray RW
RAM - 1X2GB DDR II
Monitor - Dell 24 W

Q: Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
Chennai also Open to online purchase

Q: Would you consider buying a second hand hardware from the TE market
No

Q: What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
Browsing
Desktop Processing
HTPC
Watching HD movies

Q: Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
Would prefer Intel, However wouldn't mind AMD as well if is highly recommended.

Q: If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
This will not be used to play games at all as I've got a PS3 already, May be occasional gaming.

Q: Are you looking to overclock?
No - Should I?

Q: Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
Windows 7 64 bit

Please let me know if the config I've mentioned is suffice or If I've missed anything, also let me know the indicative prices.

Thanks

Thanks for your reply - The MB doesn't seems to have HDMI port as well the Optical which are primary requirement for me as they will be connected to an AVR. The one which I chose Gigabyte seems to have all these, How do you rate these?

Biostar 790GXBE - 4k (has HDMI) (Best VFM and much better than the gigabyte one u chose, no offence intended)

I didn't wan't to stretch ur budget further. U never mentioned ur requirement was Hdmi.

R u talking ab8 this Gigabyte 785GMT-UD2H - 5.9k.

Its a good board also.

GA-G33M-S2H - That's the one I'm talking about. Possibly an Intel variant of the AMB MB you've been refering. Is AMD okay for a normal desktop - As I wouldn't be overclocking nor playing games.

It is okay for normal desktop.

It fits ur requirements too.

My suggestion:

AMD Athlon II X4 620 (Quad core for the price it comes at, it is a steal)

Any 785G based MoBo

4GB DDR3 RAM

Cooler Master Elite 335 cabinet (simple and elegant)

If under tight budget then go for the 400W PSU that comes with this cabinet as a combo, else go for the Corsair VX450 which is make it fairly future proof.

One more point to keep in mind. Go for the 7200.12 series of Seagate HDD and not 7200.11 which has some firmware issues.
