Finally taking up leap to get a media player i would be plugging this to my 24' LCD Monitor with HDMI.I looked around for media player and i hear lot of good words on AC Ryan players but confused between variants of it.

Play ON HD
Play ON HD Mini
Play ON HD 2
Play ON HD 2 Mini
Play ON HD Essential

Things I'm looking out of the media player is support for encoded mkv format i.e very other mkv and even for those BRRips , Custom Firmware i.e Linux on it, there on things would be simpler.

As if now I'm not decided on my budget but i can spend around 10k , the player should offer best value.

Basically the "2" is the improved version (with a new chipset) and the Mini does not have a buit in HDD. Mini has only the USB interface and does not support torrents. Other than that they are similar hardware wise. They seem to be decent players for the money and even I was considering them.

But recently xtreamer has announced a couple of new models which should be releasing soon (one of which runs Android Froyo.. so it's interesting). I would advise you to check those out too before deciding.

Don't worry, All of them support ext HDDs, Otherwise what's use? OR you mean to say ext DVD drive? It is also a fairly common feature nowadays.

I have the AC Ryan Mini. It supports my 1TB external USB drive and normal USB. Regarding formats it is able to play all formats I tried, but for some reason it did not play H.264. I just re-encoded and then it worked.

I have not updated the BIOS, due to lack of time. If you want me to test any formats, then I can pull some samples and let you know. But it supports .MKV for sure. Nice player. Around 6.5K.

Looked further and figured that Mini would be a better option so which one Mini or Mini 2 and whats the current price for Mini 2 at which i can get these in Mumbai .Also how good is the firmware any info whether it support CFW ?

@asingh - May be you can test some FLAWL3SS releases.

Not sure, but I heard A C Ryan Playon HD was biggest and noisiest. Fan makes lots of noise. I dont claim, I read somewhere so please check.

Bro, I would vote for Asus HD2..Plays all formats, supports TB HDD Internally, even plays 7.1 directly, Have Optical & Co Axial, HDMI,

Oh, it downloads torrents also :)

PlayON HD Mini is noiseless what i hear , rule of thumb says to get things from people who make them.

Asus HD2 has indexing issues and does not supports all formats.

EDIT :- Does PlayON HD requires a formatted HD does it mean i cannot use that for any other purpose i.e store some of my pc data ?.

Any video review for PlayON HD Mini 2 ?

WTH I had typed the response in the morn, clicked on 'Post Quick Reply' and it hasn't come!

Dinesh, just get that POHD Mini man. Anil has the same unit and he's happy with it. Had recommended it when he got hold of the HDTV.

^^

Thanks Gunmaster...!

AC Mini is noiseless. It has no fan. Plus I am sitting around 8-9 feet away from it. Big deal...! :)

Regarding the format tests, I DL'd the files, but am to darn burnt out to test em. Tomorrow will let you know. Sorry to keep your order pending. Apologies.

I'm just deciding whether Mini 2 would be worth or not from where did you guys ordered from ? I have ordered via COD.

@dinjo

I read HD2 has max support of files & can directly output 7.1.

Can you give review link which says It dont support formats.

I got lots on info on it , HD Mini 2 can virtually play all formats MKV after 35Mbps Bit rate shutter and M2TS goes to 60Mbps but still plays a tons of formats flawlessly which is not the case with many players they play it but not flawlessly.
