Hi I'm looking to buy a media player for my tv.
i'm having a sony 32" lcd tv (almost 2 years old).
I've brought down to these models. (based on the price point) Please suggest any more under the same category.
1.Western DigitalTV LIVE Media Player With Built-In Wi-Fi (url: Western DigitalTV LIVE Media Player With Built-In Wi-Fi . Buy Best Western DigitalTV LIVE Media Player With Built-In Wi-Fi at Lowest Price Online)
2. Asus HD TV Media Player with USB (url : Asus HD TV Media Player with USB . Buy Best Asus HD TV Media Player with USB at Lowest Price Online)
3. Amkette EvoTV (now this one looks a bit intresting with Android features as well as media player and says convert your tv into a smart tv) (url : Amkette Evo TV . Buy Best Amkette Evo TV at Lowest Price Online)

Now i'm too much of a noob in this media player category.
Need some help
Have a budget of 10k
Please suggest me what should i go for.

The WD media player you have posted is the older model.
The current model is this:
Western DigitalTV LIVE Media Player . Buy Best Western DigitalTV LIVE Media Player at Lowest Price Online

The Media player is pretty good . The interface is the same as that of WDTV Live Hub.

Youtube, Flixster and Shoutcast are the only online features that I use on this and they are all pretty good.

My only complaint is the lack of 5.1 AAC support. You can google the issue and you will find that this has been a problem for a long time and has not been solved and I don't think they want to fix it either. There is a workaround for this but which involves a little effort for every such file. Let me know if you need help with this issue should you buy this player.

The first firmware that I updated to when I had bought the device caused files with 5.1 AAC to play with no audio. A release a few months back fixed it partially and those files play in stereo mode.

Mind you - Youtube, Shoutcast and Flixster (Trailers) all play in stereo mode.

Hope this helps.

thanks for the quick reply.
the most basic things i'm lokking for are
wi fi connectivity
plays any format i throw.
2.1 channel would work but would love to have a 5.1 output.
also to use it as a download rig xD (my pc will die soon if didn't stopped, generally the download ranges around 150 to 200 gb for a month :/ )
Now please suggest guys.

also has anyone here got this EvoTV ? if yes please post your opinion about the same.

The WD has WiFi and 5.1 output.

Like I mentioned before I get stereo output for files containing 5.1 AAC Audio through Optical out. To get 5.1 output I just convert the audio stream to 5.1 AC3.

So lets see your basic list had -
Wi Fi Connectivity - Check
Plays any format you throw - Check (Except for the small hiccup that I have already mentioned. If buying a different device check for this issue. Also rm or rmvb files are not supported)
5.1 Output - Check
Download Rig - The older model, the WD model in your link could be used for downloading using a custom firmware (CFW). The current model does not have that feature and didn't find any CFW for it yet.

EvoTV does look interesting.

Which xtreamer did you got and for how much ?

IMO you should have got AC Ryan Mini 2, its the only player in the market apart from PopKorn hour(Read - King of media players) which plays any format flawlessly.

Xtreamer products don't support AC3 audio codec which is widely used

Please explain what is 'very low profile set'. I've tested the Xtreamer before extensively using several media files and formats (on the first unit when they were launched) and AC3 decoding worked just fine.

You need a capable receiver to decode AC3 signals. The run-of-the-mill DVD players or the so called Edifier 5.1 systems cannot do that. I am not sure what equipment you have at your end.

I'll add here , it does not works if you have mixed audio cycles i.e some part of video has MP3 and other has AAC

Just curious - What kind of files would actually have un-mixed audio cycles (2 or more formats) in it's final output & why ? ............ (the word mixed as used by you is confusing)

....... I understand an "un-mixed" file as having different audio cycles so that one can mux or equalise the tracks/streams to desired levels & even then would'nt it make sense to save the final output into a single recognised format (mixed) for ease of playback.

have I got things so muddled up :scared14:

Yes its unmixed but its not understandable if you are not into codecs

Your media file is fcuked up! I've no clue why some parts of the video file has a .mp3 and .aac. Besides AAC != AC3.

I've played files with AC3 content on the Xtreamer and it plays fine, decodes fine by the receiver.
