MGS: HD Collection - Discussion Thread

Example being the God of war series, I completed GOW 1 and 2 on the PS2 but I didn't have any interest in playing them again in HD when I can just play the superior GOW3 instead.

That's because you had the PS2, so did I. But if I didn't have it, I definitely would have loved to play those games, which were exclusive to the PS2 and really interested me. Also I didn't want to end up with the shitty software emulation provided by backward compatibility. So these "re-mastering" are pretty good alternatives. Heck, I would love to play Shadow of Rome again, given the opportunity to play it in HD.

I started with MSG4, well I guess I will wait till I finish this

Uchartered 1,2,3 or MSG 2,3,4? and ofc I am still waiting on GOW3 after finishing GOW1 and 2. and hey I also finsihed Resistance 1, so itching to have a go at Resistance 2 and 3. Hey this is giving me a stroke, am back to doodling!

I don't know, maybe I am just a bit too much of a Graphic whore. I would rather read the backstory on a wiki and play the latest version instead. This goes for PC titles too. I never played Splinter cell Pandora Tomorrow or Chaos theory (I played chaos theory on PS2 but it was watered down version of Xbox and PC version) and jumped right into conviction instead. Maybe, if the game hasn't aged badly I can give it a try. But my main concern is the price of the title. If I get it for free then obviously I wouldn't have any problems but would I invest 2009 bucks on a 10 year old title, umm I guess not. Ofcourse, there are exceptions like Shadow of colossus but that is only because there wasn't any sequel for it.

On a side note, I am getting a PS3 soon, which one should I pick up first? The resistance series or the Killzone series? I am leaning towards Killzone for its amazing visuals but peeps who have played both the games would know better.

BTW strange things happening. Wasn't MGS a SONY exclusive title ? Why 360 now?

You felt it boring precisely because of the reasons I mentioned in the previous post. Maybe you did not follow the plot from the previous titles or you skipped it completely and jumped to MGS 4. I'd say, grab this HD remake and then re-attempt MGS 4. Maybe this time, you would find it interesting. I know of several others who felt the same and sold their respective copies.

What I feel about this shift to the X360 is, perhaps Kojima wanted a larger audience to experience what the MGS is all about. One thing is for sure, MGS 4 would never make it to the X360 nor the PC/Mac. FTR, MGS 2 was a timed exclusive and made it to the Xbox and PC almost a year later.

OMG even the original top-down Metal Gear is also making it to the MGS HD Collection? :O

MGS 3 which i played on PS2 is the best game along with Mass effect series that i have played both story wise and gameplay wise!

mgs3 is the best Boss Battle game ive played too!..waitng to buy a ps3 this christmas and itching to play MGS 4!

That happened to me with Snake Eater, I tried to like that game but couldn't get past the first few levels because it was extremely boring.

Its just that my budeget is 30k for console + Games and I have already decided on the following titles :

Uncharted 1,2,3 : Rs. 5250

Red Dead Redemption, Nightmare : Rs. 2500

God of War collection, 3 : Rs. 3233

Heavy Rain : 1454

WWE 12 : 2250

Tekken 6 : Free with Console

As you can calculate, the budget has already went past 30k but I still want to squeeze in an FPS title, therefore confused between Killzone and Resistance.

Gone are the good old days of my modded PS2 which could run any game I threw at it ..... for free.

Can someone confirm if in this remastered version..the MGS 2 and 3 is with the same camera angle as the MGS4 or the crappy angle?

I played Mgs3 on the ps2 with the same angle as Mgs4 and missed Mgs2...

So would like to play them again on the xbox 360.

I still remember the boss fight in MGS Snake eater one of most difficult for me.

^^ Sorrow was my favourite boss battle in MGS3 and the toughest for me was that Old guy on the wheelchair!
