Forerunner
It will have a 4.5 inch display
with Jelly Bean operating
system, and an 8 megapixel
camera. Leading Indian handset vendor
Mircomax is all set to launch
another super smartphone
with Android 4.1 operating
system and a quad core
processor in a couple of months, for a really eye-
popping price of Rs 15,000. "Micromax will be launching a
quad core Android smartphone
based on Broadcom processor
in March for around Rs 15,000,"
Micromax's co-founder and
business director, Vikas Jain said to The Mobile Indian. He
further said, "The quad core
smartphone will have a 4.5 inch
qHD IPS display, ICS or Jelly
Bean operating system, 8
megapixel camera and 4 GB of internal memory."
Notably, Rajiv Kapur, managing
director, Broadcom had hinted
about the Micromax
smartphone some time back
while talking to The Mobile
Indian. "We are in talks with a leading Indian handset player
to launch smartphones based
on our singe, dual and quad
core processors," Rajiv had said
then. Quad core phones are not new,
with many phones being
launched on Qualcomm
Snapdragon S4 (Nexus G) and
Nvidia Tegra 3 (LG Optimus 4X
HD, HTC One X etc) chipsets. But, what is likely to change as
a result of this partnership
between Broadcom and
Micromax is that the quad core
phones will have an affordable
price tag. On average the price of quad core processor phones
from MNC players is around Rs
30,000. Also, Micromax is not the only
Indian player who is toying
with the idea of launching a
quad core smartphone. As The
Mobile Indian had earlier
reported reported, Xolo is also mulling a smartphone with
Nvidia Tegra 4 quad core
processor to be launched
around March this year.
Another Indian player, Karbonn, had confirmed that its plans to launch a quad core
device, based on a MediaTek
MT6589 processor, this year.
Meanwhile, Bangalore based
iBerry has already launched a
quad core processor based tablet, Auxus X4, with a
Samsung Exynos processor.
