Well, we can say that the folks from Redmond definitely have a morbid sense of humor. In celebration of the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Phone 7, Microsoft held a mock funeral for two of the stars of the smartphone community: the Apple iPhone and RIM's BlackBerry.

Now thats creative ....

it will live up to the hype.. it will take some time to get there though .. if not apple it will definitely knock out bb as far as enterprise support is concerned .

I would not comment on what they would or would not live upto, but killing RIM/BB, oh seriously. Guys lets not forget the whole concept of Blackberry is not just about the phones. They have dedicated servers in place around the world to support the instant push email feature which is the reason why enterprise people buy the same in the first place. Microsoft would have to create similar levels of service and support to beat RIM/BB. But it would definitely be nice if they do that and bring competition to a somewhat monopolistic market.

Looks like WP7 could be closest competition for an iPhone, UI smoothness wise. Android/others (MeeGo etc) better pull up their socks. Was watching a hands-on video of an early version here:
