Unconfirmed sources report that a young Swedish hacker named Nutzipper has defeated the Digital Rights Management on Microsoft's new mp3 player the Zune. Our source also indicates that the hacker has also compromised the Zune's Wi-Fi music sharing system. The Wi-Fi hack apparently allows users to secretly transfer music from any nearby Zune. Microsoft is very concerned about the possible security breach and the RIAA is threatening to sue Microsoft over the faulty DRM standard.

The young Swedish hacker apparently received a Zune from an American source, the Zune is not available in Europe yet, and quickly set to work. Nutzipper, who already has a reputation for stellar hacks, must have completed this hack in just one week of feverish work.

firmware upgrades are there in pipeline for sure ;)

This was bound to happen.

But further workarounds will be carried for the new firmware also. :ohyeah:

As expected ....

Microsoft Updates Zune Firmware to 1.2

New firmware update brings performance tweaks, but no added functionality
DailyTech reported two weeks ago that Microsoft would soon be releasing a new firmware update for its Zune music player. Microsoft is intent on making continual "tweaks" to its player over the course of its life, so let the games begin.

There is no new functionality added with the update, but users do note that performance has been improved across the board with the player. Users note that everything from scrolling through albums to viewing pictures has been sped up.

To perform the update, Zune users simply have to plug in their device, right click on it and then select "Check for Zune Device Updates." A few moments later, you should be cruisin' along with v1.2.
