After discussing with my friend we decided to cut down on the price of graphics card a bit (he plays but does not play hardcore and is not gaming enthusiast) and go for an SSD for improved speed of booting and application opening. He saw my PC with SSD and wanted one for him. Also the cabinet seems very important to him.

Ordered the following items from Delta Peripherals for total Rs.18,885

1 x Belkin 4-OUT SURG Protector
1 x Logitech® Media Desktop MK200 (Keyboard + Mice)
1 x Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL-B3 uATX, Socket 1155
1 x Corsair RAM Desktop DDR3 4GB 1333 MHz Value Select
1 x LG DVD Writer SATA (Dekstop Internal)
1 x Intel® Core™ i3 2100 Processor - 3.1 GHz, 3 MB Cache, Socket 1155
1 x Asus ATi Radeon 5670 - 1GB DDR3
1 x SSD / HDD Bracket, 2.5" ( Laptop HDD) Mounting on 3.5" (Desktop PC)

Things to buy yet:

PSU - Seasonic 430W - 2800
SSD 30GB - 3300
Cabinet - NZXT Guardian - 4000

---
Total: 28,985
---

HDD and Monitor already have.

Speakers - Logitech 2.1 around 1000 - 2000.

That's it. Anything left out? :)

Look no point getting a 30GB SSD, it can't even serve as a OS drive [Windows 7 + Service Pack 1 ~ 45 GB], so seriously no point buying a SSD at this point, tell him to wait till the next upgrade cycle.

For graphics get the AMD HD 6670 ~ 5500/-, if you do not intend to get the HD 6770, but be warned performance will be spotty and forget playing most games @full HD + medium settings. You'll need to be satisfied with @720p / 1080p + low settings in most current titles.

Apart from this, tell him to cut down on the cabinet, the NZXT Gamma is not a aesthetically appealing piece but, it performs commendably, hence tell him to save some cash, instead of chasing after looks.

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

How about a 64 GB SSD? That would be enough right? Cutting down on cabinet seems to be a good choice but he wouldn't listen. I will see if he can extend his budget and go for 6770. Will keep you updated.

Still not worth it, it will be an OS dump + page file that is it, seriously you need a 120GB SSD minimum these days, to keep your OS + favorite applications, so that the SSD really gives you a good kick in performance apart from just a boost in load times for the OS.

Yes, seriously the NZXT Gaurdian is simply not worth the money he puts in it, much better to save it OR redeploy it in other components of the PC.

Hope this helps Sire. Cheers!!

Discussed the config again with my friend and settled on this. Thanks for the suggestions in this thread :)

Previously decided config:

1 x Intel® Core™ i3 2100 Processor - 3.1 GHz, 3 MB Cache, Socket 1155

1 x Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL-B3 uATX, Socket 1155

1 x Corsair RAM Desktop DDR3 4GB 1333 MHz Value Select

1 x Asus ATi Radeon 5670 - 1GB DDR3

1 x Logitech® Media Desktop MK200 (Keyboard + Mice)

1 x LG DVD Writer SATA (Dekstop Internal)

1 x SSD / HDD Bracket, 2.5" ( Laptop HDD) Mounting on 3.5" (Desktop PC)

1 x Belkin 4-OUT SURG Protector

18,885 So far.

Changes:

Buy Asus 6770 instead of 5670 which means +3,825

22,710. Total so far.

To buy:

Cabinet - Cooler Master Chasis Elite 343 - Rs.1,840 (NZXT Gamma is a big NO due to lack of aesthetics!)

PSU - Seasonic 430W - Rs.2800

Rs. 27,350.

HDD (640 GB) & Monitor (22") Already there.

Rs.2,650 More for speakers + UPS.

Anything left out?

Just comment on the cabinet. Is that ok?

You want a word on the cabinet, Sire -- the Cooler Master eLite 3** series = crap, it has issues of wire routing with standard Gigabyte-ATX motherboards [especially the 4-Pin CPU power wire], so if your friend desires more standard looks + a decent airflow set-up, get this --

NZXT Source 210 ~ 2800/- TheITWares - One Stop for all Gizmos!NZXT Source 210 Elite White Steel with painted interior ATX Mid Tower Computer Case w/ Black Front Trim.

Hope this helps.

I already bought the cabinet. Went to Delta Peripherals in Richie street yesterday and bought directly from them.

I hope it does not have wiring issues with intel motherboard. I personally feel that the cabinet is very fine. The build quality is quite good. Better that elite 310. More that what I expected from a cabinet costing Rs.1,840.

Monitor will be upgraded soon. I am giving my old monitor to my friend for the time being.

Today I (we - me and my bro) assembled an entire PC from scratch. This is the first time I am doing it and was excited. Thanks to techenclave for all the support. All my earlier PCs were branded ones like HCL Infiniti (bought in 1998!), Compaq Presario, HP Pavilion, Dell Inspiron and Dell XPS (for bro) in the same order. We were buying branded PCs because of the misconception that they were of better quality.

Now that we know how simple this is. Will never go back to branded ones again. Great savings and performance/quality advantage.
