71-90K Mid Range Gaming PC Upgrade Advice for 1060 3GB

Guys I'm in need to upgrade my PC since the existing setup needs to be used for some office related work. Main usage of the PC is gaming apart from browsing etc. Kindly advice what should be the choice of setup that I should select and if this is the right time for such an upgrade.

  2. What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
    • CPU - Intel i5 4440
    • Motherboard - Gigabyte Gaming 3
    • GPU - MSI GTX 1060 3gb OC
    • RAM - Corsair 4GBx2 = 8GB
    • Monitor - Dell P2419H / Samsung Frame 2021 65" (Depending on Requirement)
    • PSU - Corsair VX450
    • Cabinet - Corsair Carbide 400r
    • Keyboard - Cooler Master Devastator 3
    • Mouse - Logitech G300s
    • HDD - 2 TB
    • SSD (SATA) - 128GB Samsung Evo 850 Evo (OS) + 256GB Intel 545s (Games)
    • Wifi Module - ASUS AC55BT B1 1200
    • UPS - APC ES 650 IN with USB Connection
  3. Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
    • Monitor - Dell P2419H
    • GPU - MSI GTX 1060 3gb OC
    • Keyboard - Cooler Master Devastator 3
    • Mouse - Logitech G300s
    • HDD - 2 TB (Almost dying)
    • SSD - 256GB Intel 545s (Games)
    • Wifi Module - ASUS AC55BT B1 1200 (PCE-I)
  4. Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
    • CPU + Motherboard - Intel i5 12600K or KF ~24-25.5K + MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 Motherboard (20.5K) = (44.5-46K)
    • OR
    • Intel i7 12700F (28K) + MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4 Motherboard (15K) = 43K
    • OR
    • Intel i5 12400F (15.5k) + SOME B660 MB for around 10k = 26K
    • (Planning to skip on MB Wifi to save some costs and use my Asus Wifi Card)
    • RAM - 16GBx2 = 32GB
    • Cabinet - Corsair or Lian Li (5-8K)
    • PSU - 5-8K (Want to buy something as solid as my old Corsair VX450 which can do duty for atleast 5 years.
    • SSD - 1 TB
  5. Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
    • GPU - By the end of 2022 or when prices stabilize
    • Monitor - Upgrade from Dell P2419H
    • CPU Cooler - By the end of 2022
    • UPS - Which can handle above loads. Even my current UPS switches off during voltage fluctuations esp while gaming.

i would say go for i7 option with a solid 850w psu from deepcool or Corsair / Crucial p2 nvme ssd / Any ram stick which you can save money for other parts on / Lian li lancool
 
The choice of CPU would depend on the graphics card you are aiming to get. If it is something on low-mid range up to the 3060 Ti, an i5 should be sufficient.
Get the K variant only if you are planning on overclocking or if you have budgeted for the K

Regarding the RAM, you should be fine with 8Gbx2 DDR4 for now. Since DDR5 RAMs are compatible, you can upgrade to a 16GB X 2 DDR5 kit when their prices fall

Even I am tilting towards the i7 option but i5 12400F looks like such a tempting option keeping in mind the price to performance ratio. The only purpose of the above build is primarily gaming and some reviews suggest that it shouldn't be a bottleneck for a 3060Ti/3070 which would be final upgrade in the above setup.

I'm torn between the above and was thinking of investing the money saved with the i5 2400F to upgrade to atleast a 3070 by the end of the year. I plan to upgrade the CPU + MB + RAM since the existing setup needs to be transferred for a different purpose.

Since the primary usage for the PC is gaming I’m tilting in favour of the 12400f but unable to decide on the motherboard that I should go for. Gigabyte B660 DS3H at around 10k looks like a better fit for i5 12400f instead of MSI PRO B660M-A. Gigabyte option is going to cost a total of around 25-26k while on the other hand i7 12700 option with MSI board will touch close to 42k which looks like overkill. Pl correct me if I am wrong.

GPU that I’m looking forward to buy is 3070 for pushing atleast 1440p high or 4k medium on the Frame 2021 eventually.
 
Your choice of games are more cpu intensive than gpu . I wud go with i7
If upgradablity is priority go b550 and ryzen

Thanks for the advice. I'm on the verge of convincing myself to go ahead with i7 12700f with MSI B660 Non Wifi motherboard to keep the overall costs close to 40k.

With the above almost sorted I need to decide about the rest of the components of the system for which I need some guidance:

1. SSD: Crucial P2 / Kingston NV1 ~6.8k OR WD SN570 ~ 8.4k (After Bank Discounts)
2. PSU (Support for 12700 + 3070) : Corsair RM650 ~ 8.6k | RM750 ~9k | RM 850 ~ 10.3k | OR Other - Please suggest since I'm unaware of options.
3. RAM: Crucial Ballistix Max RGB DDR4-4000 C18 2x16GB ~ 12K
4. Cabinet: Corsair 4000D White ~ 7K

Are the components shortlisted above decent enough? Kindly advice.
 
cabinet- whichever you fancy bro
ram- just get dual ram imo 4000mhz is useless , your most intensive task wud be gaming hardly any gain 3200mhzvs 3600mhz vs 4000 mhz vs the money spent(check youtube for "3200mhz vs 3600mhz vs4000 mhz" also remember intel has ring bus design that doesnt gain a lot with higher ram speeds(

psu- max draw i cud calculate is 500 watts or calculate urself on ( https://www.coolermaster.com/power-supply-calculator/ ) i wud recommend 750 watt has enough headroom for upgrades
ssd- avoid nv1\p2 go for a2000 or kc2000 . sn570 has sustained write speed bugs(pls confirm) i wud save money on ram and buy samsung 970 evoplus or sn750

1. Having used Corsair cases earlier I’ll go ahead with 4000D Airflow
2. Selected the RAM since there is hardly any difference between GSkill Ripjaws V 3600 32Gb ~ 11.2K vs this Crucial 4000 + RGB ~ 12.1K.
3. Corsair RM750 it is then at 9k. Pl do comment if I should be considering some other brand as well.
4. How is Samsung 980 ~ 9k ? Evo Plus will be 11k and wD 750 isn’t available anywhere & sn770 is 12.5k. I feel for SSD I shouldn’t be breaching the 10k threshold.
 
Both Corsair (for PSU) and Samsung (for SSD) have solid build quality and after sales service. These would be the best choices for you as listed above. RM750 and 980 SSD

980 500gb is available 6.5k offline markets . If u buying 1tb then 980 is good ssd at 11k.
Here is *my* tier list for ssd
Sn770>750,980evo,970evo/plus,gbm30,smsng 980,crucialp5,adata s50>s40g,hynix p31,Kingston kc2500>kc2000>a2000

Good if u don't wanna spend more than 10k on ssd . Above ones to the left of hynix are all good ones get the ones u find cheaper , try offline.
Do remeber that even while loading games the difference between 980evo and Kingston a2000 wud be less than 5-10 seconds. I don't think so you will notice any delay for daily tasks unless you copy files all day long.
If i was a casual gamer with non sensitive data(data i don't care if it's lost) on my ssd i wud go for a2000 anyday

Samsung 980 is 10k offline. Bought twice for friends in the last month.

Hey can you please elaborate about the A2000. It thought it was a good SSD and was thinking of buying it but does it have any data loss issues or some other drawbacks?

From a daily use POV there won't be any noticeable difference between those SSDs preference listed other than sequential speeds which honestly won't matter unless you do transfer to and from another same or faster SSD.
All of those would perform same in daily use cases. There's no data loss/reliability issues with Kingston. A2000 is good budget Nvme TLC drive with DRAM cache.

Kingston a2000 is a cheap drive , however it's still a good drive but is definitely less reliable than Samsung's and wd just that.
I widnt store sensitive data on Kingston if i wish to recover it later or if that data is very imp.
Simply their failure rates are higher and abrupt
 
Finalizing on the Samsung 980 1 TB ~ 9k since Kingston a2000 is 8k. Having used Samsung SSD's in the past will stick to them.

Is the onboard wifi on MSI Pro B660M-A much better in comparison or should I save 2.2K and use my existing Asus Wifi for the time being ? I'm unable to find a review talking in detail about the performance of onboard Wifi.

Your wifi card is good enough, u don't need a wifi motherboard
that being said sometimes the wifi card may block air inflow into your gpu if your pcie slots are too close or your gpu shroud is too wide. Just look out for those . For ram just get any 3600 or 4000 MHz u feel like . They all are priced too tightly and have a very very narrow performance increase to suggest any one stick. Just choose the prettiest or flashiest of what u like
