Forum Feedback Migrating away from XenForo

Would request everyone to spend some time familiarizing yourselves and share feedback for improvements. Lots of things would require exploring and tweaking. The more we find it before the migration, the more seamless the migration will be. Otherwise we will be shocked on the D-Day.

However the experience on the tablet leaves a lot to be desired. Waiting for the other guys to chime in.

Also threads with the same titles are a problem here too? Never really encountered that though.
Enable the rich text editor from the toggle button on the top left of the editor and you would like what you see. Yeah same thread titles are not allowed.

Sorry if this has been answered but we need to allow thread creators, the ability to manage the first post in the thread. This comes in handy if it's a list of things (urls, apps, etc) which the creator can actively manage and make it easier to others to find everything consolidated.
I hope this functionality will be available and enabled.

It has capability to convert topics into wikis, so community can keep them updated.
Everything is too big on mobile. Very less info on screen. Seems like a site for parents with big fonts and spaces.
Yeah thats the issue with one of the themes which we will be keeping as default. But other themes will have compact view.

Plus they do not have a market rating system or add-on. Which I will have to develop. For which I will have to learn Ruby on Rails. So these are the two main reasons why it will take us that long.
The market rating system was done some time back and went one step ahead and built the marketplace features as well. Now the only thing left to do is test the data migrations for market/ratings and configure the other feature/settings.

I guess we are one month away from the switch over.

Tentative migration calendar. Edit capability will be stopped for all users including the moderators. Forums will remain in read only mode during the last 12 hours of the migration.

Still testing the schedule so timelines might swell max by a day for initial migration and by max by 12 hours for the incremental migration. Will have a clear picture by this weekend.

I'm genuinely excited about the transition to Discourse. We've been using XenForo for a long time and are very familiar with both its strengths and its limitations. Now it's time to see what Discourse brings to the table. Testing it out on demo sites just doesn’t provide the full picture. A real, day to day experience is what’s needed to properly evaluate it.

I’ve been active across many forum communities over the years. MyBB, SMF, Drupal, Salesforce, phpBB, vBulletin, XenForo, and more. This is the first site I’m part of that’s making the switch to Discourse, and I’m looking forward to exploring what the latest forum tech has to offer. It’ll be a great opportunity for me to get a feel for how it stacks up against the others, especially if I ever need to launch my own private community in the future.
Discourse is very different, but it's quite good. On that note, I don't think I've used Drupal personally haha. How's it?

How old PMs we want to keep? Right now we have PMs since 1st Jan 2015. I am thinking to get rid of PMs older than 1st Jan 2020. That should be OK right?
It might be okay, but for some sharing stuff, the groups are only on TE, with no connect outside of it. I have one from end of 2020 which should anyway be okay, but is the deletion based on the original date or the last message date? Should be the latter.

Its not about storage.. its more about the migration speed. Will be able to shave off a good 5-6 hours in the bulk migration.
I suggest to keep the old PMS as is for the nostalgia purpose and good old time Convos to look back on for old members. we can manage being the site down for even a day for Bulk Migration it's just a one time inconvenience we can all manage I Guess.

Sure lets keep since 2015.

BTW have been refining the import script for weeks and days now. The logic, performance, bottlenecks, crashes, completeness are all being tested. Quite frankly mentally very draining. Each full run takes well over 7 days due to frequent crashes in between and data corruption midway. Still have not managed a full uninterrupted import.

Nevertheless, have reached an almost perfect state except for market custom fields import, that'll also be done by next week hopefully. Wish could rent an M4 Pro for a few days. The servers are underwhelming compared to the power of a Mac.

Anyway the major spanner in the works has turned out to be how Enclave Plus membership is to be implemented. So might have to push the migration by a couple of weeks till that is sorted. A welcome break on the bright side. Will use that to fine tune the market and feedback plugins.
