Hi.
I have got an offer letter from Infosys and will most probably get an offer letter soon(finger crosseD) from Mindtree! Since package are almost same, which One should I join!
While Infosys wins in Brand reputation and its training, Mindtree does not take so many 1000s of freshers each year so It feels special to be a part of Mindtree!! ANy suggestion ,which company should Start my careeer with?

P.S. I am planning to work in any comapny for 1-2 years before I will do my MBA!

Mindtree dude! For the simple fact that you need to keep your brains busy and working if you want to do an MBA some time down the line. Chances are that you will be chilling out more in Infy than in Mindtree, thereby invoking a shorter half-life. For the record, all IT companies induce a level of half-life in their employees :D

I currently work in the *so called brand* company and take my word buddy do not join infy. I strongly recommend against joining this company to anyone. I am working here for past 4 years and 10 months and in past couple of years (since recession) they have all anti employee things. Never believe whatever good they say in newspapers, its all in papers only and reality is a stark opposite. Buddy this is a honest suggest. I guess we have people here working for it like Supra and Greenhorn (just quit) and many others.

BTW: things are changing again for the better in infy...slowly but gradually. Its trying to gain its pride again.

Ppl below manager level were given a hike of almost 22% last week. A good sign of things to come:)

Mindtree wins handdown.

I know of several cases of people who left infy after working for 2-3 years, they got offers in the range of 1.8x or more... that should tell you a lot about how they undervalue talent.

Buddy that is to a point true but the recent CR excercise is a big sh!t and i had been to the discussion and also asked a question about the percentage for which they had no answer. It was completely ridiculous reply from the stupid HR.Buddy get ready to see a huge flow of resignations and LDII mails now since the CR excersie. This was what everyone was waiting for.

You have hit the spot buddy. They do not value loyal employees and laterals gets all the better salaries and people who had joined as freshers (like me) get screwed up in renumeration.

@OP

You still wanna join Infy after all this ?? You better not buddy if you plan to make and not break your future. In fact i even read somewhere that NRN said somewhere that " I am not gonna loose my sleep for 3000 to 4000 employees are unhappy". I guess he forgot to add another ZERO at the end of these figures.

well, there are still reasons to join infy. If you are a lateral, you'll still get paid decently if you can bargain well enough. Or if you're a fresher too. The infosys brand still has tremendous residual value ( at least right now). If you're into this for the short term (2~3) years, then infy still makes sense. Get the training, work there for a year or two, and get out before your growth gets stunted, and cash out the infosys tag for a better job elsewhere

However, if you're in this for the long term, better look elsewhere. To quote hitler, "I thought they were giving me a career, but all I have right now is this great aapu" :P

I was with Infy for 8 months, out of which 5 and half was spent in "training". What I've learnt is which company you want to join depends on your priorities. I didn't want to get stuck in a big company, wasting away most of my time, and pretending to learn something (yea, it happens). But if your first priority is money, they pay well. Far better than what most other companies pay freshers. In Infy, there is a big chance that you will be in bench for quite sometime. But then that depends entirely on your luck.

And I beg to differ from others on the matter of training. I got thru it with a really good CGPA without ANY effort. If you are from a non computer background, it may be of help. But even then I wouldn't attach as much importance to the training they provide. And certainly it isn't the "world-class" standard training that everyone calls it. The Mysore campus is awesome, and you can have lots of fun if you know how to manage time. But that's about it.

I don't mean to say don't join Infy. Priorities. If technical knowledge is first on your list, but yo don't mind getting paid a bit less than what your friends in "big" companies earn, then a small company would be your best bet. Working in Mindtree will offer a chance to learn fast, do some actual work, and generally be productive (smaller companies cannot afford to hire you and put you in bench) But if you want job security and a decent pay package, then Infy might be the place for you.

P.S: Just a suggestion. Spend sometime to figure out your priorities. Put them down in paper, list out the pros and cons of each. Then decide. I learnt it the hard way, so hopefully you wouldn't make the same mistake ;)

Don't think they can do much about attrition anyways...the damage is already done. What I am trying to say is Infy has deviated from in Core values in the last 1 yrs when it was hit by recession; all because NRN and nandan were no longer in the driving seat. But now our Shit HR have taken some bashing from NRN and I think they are looking for some recovery:)

If u look at all indian biggie IT companies (TCS, Wipro and infy); infy gives u a good head start in terms of It training and grooming which is far superior than provided by any IT cimpnay in the world. Hell, thier training center is bigger than the Microsoft head office building:)

My point is: Join infy for say 1 yr...get a good exposure. remebre , infy has more than 400+ multinational clients. which in a span of 1 yr u can get to experience in a little way:)

Coming to remuneration: I don't think us hould worry much about money in the initial 5 yrs of ur work. U should try to learn about difffernt business domains and technologies. Money will come to u in 5 yrs. Infy ppl who have wrked in multiple projects get a hike of 70-80% when they switch. Though My indian salary is just 7-8 lakhs I earn around 15-16 laks a yrbecause of my onsite trips:)

In other companies like mindtree, IBM etc; oniste is very very limited. So if u wanna travel and like to visit places u may not get chances in other MNC's like u do in our desi biggies:)

Note: I am not a infy Fan but I do know that Infy though not a heavenly company its not bad either. Its just that Infy was sooooooo much better than other earlier that It hurts me and everyine at infy so see these new policies. But even with all these policies Infy still rocks.

Well, for onsite opportunities TCS is a much better place compared to its Indian peers. Just for the record, how much does Infy pay freshers now - both ComSci and non ComSci? My company is trying to do some kinda reality check and in the effort wants to see how the pay scales in the Indian MNCs are.

totally incorrect dude:)

Oniste pay is the higest in Infy. That's the ONLY and ONLY reason I am in Infy for last 6 yrs:)... I get paid almost like 3 lakhs per month in Australia. TCS, Wipro never pay these high. Moreoever in TCs and Wipro; even for 1 month trip on a dev project would be considered under business visa where they pay u like 35$ per day. My friend was in Wipro in Auz under business visa for a trip for 3 months ! ridiculous. Same for a TCs friend whom I met in NZ.

Whereas I spend like 150$ per day in all my onsite trips and still end up saving like a lakh per month:)
