Yep, all I am saying is that they are flouting guidelines. No wonder the reported port out count from Airtel has decreased so much since the launch of MNP. They are using unfair means.

You should have sent a complaint email to TRAI and TERM about this.

whenever i try porting my no from airtel to some other (actually i dont want to port in the first place :P) the airtel customer care calls me and keeps giving me offers and offers and i m loving it :

when u send a porting request to 1900 and then when u get the porting id , the customer care calls u to retain u and then just blast them bla bla....

first i was given 10p/min a2a & 30p/min a2m , then next month i got free missed call alerts (for which airtel normally charges rs 15/month , docomo gives free by default)

i m on airtel special retention plan :D

my advice , unless ur operator network sucks in ur area with frequent call drops , try this method to get cheaper offers without porting :P
i wanted to port out of airtel, but got a similar experience. i got offer: free missed call alerts, 1p/6 sec A2A, 1p/2 sec A2M free for 1 month and at a cost of Re.1/day later on. They even promised to boost network strength in my college, because i told them the reason why i am porting out is zero network in college(True reason of course). They also said they had technical difficulty porting me out(lame excuse, i have enough balance and all). I told them to call again after 5 days and i said i would reconsider these offers if the network quality was really improved. they even cursed the operator to whom i was porting out to, saying "that's a bad network"!. look at the extent to which they try to retain their customers who are fed up. they ignore, cheat, overcharge customers and then when we try to leave them, they come begging to stay with offers.

Virgin mobile has used this topic pretty nicely in their ads. :)

^ its not a bad offer after all , my prepaid usage has decreased ever since that offer , and airtel network i can vouch for it alteast wherever i travel , happy with the offer , never wanted to port out int the first place :P

Seems that Tata Indicom didn't wanted me as their customer. I applied for porting code on last wednesday, even before delivery report could come I got the porting code. Went to MYNL QCSC on saturday, till saturday no calls, and applied for porting. Tuesday call from tata asked why I am switching to which I replied bad network, to which they said ok fine. Today Thursday suddenly I was unable to make any outgoing calls from tata (it was still logged on to network) then put my MTNL sim in newly acquired Captivate and it was up and running, though there was no balance. Tried calling Customer care but it was taking too much time. Checked the balance again and this time it was showing promised Rs. 91. :)

As expected, 3g speeds are capped at 384 kbps. For MTNL, 3g is true 3g i.e 384kbps. If you want more speeds, it seems you have to upgrade to hsdpa by paying some sort of activation charges, not very sure though.

Had requested airtel for porting (just for heck of it). They called back and said there is a 8GB/3 months validity/250 rupees plan for internet.

Anyone knows about it ? (i did not know :S)

How does one activate the same ???

It may be Airtel Special retention Plan.

I don't think so since yesterday I called the customer care and the guy there too confirmed about the plan. He told that i need to do a recharge of 250 and the plan will be activated. Will try today and confirm.

before doing any recharge, just sms SHOW<space><recharge value> to 59222 to know about the special offers on that specific recharge.
E.g - SHOW 98 tells you about the GPRS plan

P.S: This is only for Airtel customers
