Hi!
Im thinking of getting a mobo (s939) for the AMD 3000+ proccy that ill be buying.My max budget is 4k.Any suggestions?
My old PC was a Barton 2600+ + ASUS A7V-400MX (which died - so the upgrade).I want to use the DDR ram i allready have thats why im not inclined for the AM2.
Thanks in advance!!!

I think MSI K8NGM2 would be a good option! The model with all the goodies (I think its FID) should be within ur budget!

Ok an update guys,the the finance minister (my mom) has increased the budget to around 15k.SO what do you think i should do?

i want to reuse the monitor/KB/mouse/cabby etc. from my old config.So i only need CPU/MOBO,RAM(DDR2 If u think an AM2 or C2D config fits in there,otherwise even the 512MB DDR1 will do).

thanks for the replies guys!

a rig with DDR RAM will need a complete upgradation soon. If u can sell of the RAM, it'd be worth getting DDRII. I mean try a buy-Back with ur dealer offering him DDR & paying him the differential for DDRII(667) recommended.

Then u can go for am2 3000+/k9gm2 ~9k + gig of RAM ~6K so total ~15K

C2d won't fit in by far. e6300 + p965neo alone will cost ~15K, u will need to arrange 6K more for atleast 1gig of RAM...

ok...the dealer is offering methe following for 15.5k

C2D 6300 + ASUS mobo(don't know the model yet) + 200GB HDD + 512MB DDR2 RAM (think its 533MHZ).

Then ill sell off the old cpu+RAM and get another 512MB RAM.

so how is the deal?

tyhanks

great deal in my opinion get it

yup thats what it is but....im having certain reservations about the mobo that hell provide so im thinking of keeping the asrock board as another option if he offers me a bad board.

any idea what is its exact name (i think u had an asrock board na?how much is it now?)

thanks udit!

if u dont wanna OC then go for the the Intel Original 965 based mobo....will cost u something around 5-6k....IMO the Asrock mobo is bad in terms of stability and has no support for SATA II and more issues.

so

E6300+ Intel original 965 mobo- 14k

Transcend DDr2 1gb: 6k

Sell of your old stuff and get around 3k. and persuade your mom for an extra 1-2k.

I used to use Asus A8N-E with AMD S939 & it was a amazing motherboard

the Asrock 775Twins HDTV 2.0 for C2D & it was a crappy motherboard as it had no dual channel & SATA2 support & used to give a BSOD once a week

your dealer will probably give you a Asus P5LD2-VM or Asus P5LD2-VM-SE as they are the cheapest Asus C2D Motherboards costing 4.4k to 4.8k & are good boards for people who don't want to overclock

^^^thanks for the advice guys,

@Hotstuff
I can't ask my parents for more (actually i was just hoping for an upgrade of arnd 7k but unexpectedly it went up to 15k so i cant ask for more.)

@Udit
Thanks for the info about the asus mobos (Asus P5LD2-VM and Asus P5LD2-VM-SE).

One more thing is,is there anything to look out for in those motherboards?

I think ur dealer is offering ASUS P5VDC-MX (ViA KT890 chipset dx9c,5.1 hd audio, 8x AGP no PCI ex though, support for both DDR n DDR2 - a big plus, sata 2 raid 0,1,,1+0 etc.) costs arnd 2700 here in mumbai....1 of my friends bought 1 a month back for arnd 3k and running c2d e6300. It does support c2d bjut only with PCB R2.0 or later. I guess u can find out from the cover of the packaging if the MB is c2d ready or not.
