Monitors Monitor needed. 20k, 27", 1440p, 144Hz.

Hey guys, I have to buy a 27" monitor (1440p, 144Hz). Budget 20k (max 25k).

My primary usage will be office tasks like dealing with Word files, long hours at PDFs, etc. Will it make sense to pay extra to get a monitor that pivots? Is the monitor's pivot mechanism designed such that they can undergo one to two orientation changes (between landscape & portrait) per day?

My secondary usage will be gaming, maybe once-twice a week, for 1-2 hours. I'll only be playing single player games.

I was using Acer Nitro VG240YS monitor (24", 1080p, 165Hz) till now and loved the experience but I had to repurpose the monitor somewhere else, hence I'll be buying a new one.

Lastly, is there any upcoming sale on Amazon/Flipkart? I can wait 1 to 2 weeks but it will be difficult after that.

For extensive usage, look for a monitor whic is height adjustable. You will not have ergonomic problems. If you do it gently, I dont think pivoting mechanism will have any problem. Even if it does, you can always buy a monitor arm as a replacement for the broken stand.

at 25k price point, difficult to get ips panel. you have to go for VA or TN panel.if you can extend budget, check out LG 27GL850.

I think both amazon and flipkart had a name sake extended festive sales last month. Not expecting big price drops on monitors in next 1-2 weeks,

You’ll probably up your budget by 2-3k. There are some good monitors but most don’t come with height adjustment. Go for one that supports vesa mount.

Am using LG 27Qb600. Other than 144hz requirements. It’s brilliant for content creation/consumption and decent for productivity. I use it everyday for work and single player gaming over weekends (60fps). It’s a good fit between content-productivity-gaming.

One downside is screen brightness. It is quiet bright for text, I use it on reader mode to tone it down a lot.

Since you do not want to do any video/photo editing so I recommend Acer VG 271U. You can buy a monitor arm separately if you need adjustments. But wait for the sale because you can get it for about 18-20k in sales. If you do not want to wait or want an adjustable stand then your pick should be Acer XV272U KV. XV 272 has a very good color accuracy out of the box. It is a perfect monitor at 25k.

Acer XV272U KV and Dell S2721DGF are both very good 165 HZ IPS panels available at about 25k right now. Both have really good reviews. I just bought Acer XV272U KV and it is a very good IPS panel.

@powervgx Thanks for suggesting XV272U. It seems perfect for my use case. How does the text look on it and is the minimum brightness too bright? I often work in a dimly lit room after turning my monitors brightness to 0% on Acer VG240YS but I still sometimes find it too bright and often I have to switch on Night Light in windows to make the display more soothing to eyes.

Look no further than the XV272U. I bought one from amazon for a deep discount, for either 18 or 19k sometiume back. Amazing monitor and worth every penny.

Man.. I missed it during the sale was 22K without card offers. With card would probably reach those figures. Since then it never was same price.

Since you are coming from a 1080p monitor which only has a ppi of about 92, you will find text to be very sharp because 1440p 27 inch is 108 ppi, a substantial jump. You can increase the scaling to 125% in case the text seems small to you. Regarding lowest brightness, I have to check again. I think I kept it at 35 and it seemed fine in a dimly lit room. I am at my relative's place today. Will check again tomorrow.
 
Hello again guys, how does this compare to the above monitors. I have heard good things about LG 27GN800 on Reddit.

I'll most likely be finalising and buying it in the upcoming week.

Acer XV272U KV is better. The only 1440p monitors better than it IMO in India are MSI MAG274QRF-QD & old Samsung G7 with 1440p 240Hz (ones I can remember).

LG nano IPS monitors have low contrast ratio, so personally I won't buy it. Non issue for people upgrading from cheaper monitors. My old monitor was Acer VG240Ys, which might have a contrast ratio of 1200:1 & I could notice a lower contrast ratio on my Asus VG27AQL1A which apparently has 1000:1.

Coming back to Acer vs LG, both have similar response times with a good single overdrive mode across the refresh range, but Acer has a better stand & contrast ratio:

I heard Acer monitors come with a 15A plug, so get a converter or use cable from old monitor. Internal power adapter in Acer helps with cable management.

I bought Gigabyte Q27 1440P Ips monitor for 17.7k during their sale. They have black Friday sale and probably one for new year not sure it will be back on sale though
