Most Users Online On TE Record

Hi Guys !!

Was just going through the TE site, kept wondering for a long time that can the existing record for most users online on TE be broken ?
If visit the Forums page, at the bottom, the following statistics are shown :-

Most users ever online was 2,197, 18 Aug 08 at 06:16 AM.
Members 38,704 Active Members 2,725

Going by the stastics, the number of active members can break the existing record.

Let us all make this Diwali Special.

All the members can come online on TE at 12 PM IST on this Diwali (i.e. Friday Nov 5)
How many of you are in for this ???
Let us all set a new record on TE for the max users online at a single time on TE

not all active members log on regularly i think. i mean the stats must be counting people who log in once a month or two also.

Someone has asked this previously. This was the day, Dark Star posted a review of one of the Linux distros and posted the link on Digg.

The rest is history. :P
 
It not be easy for server to handle the increased load and might make job of admins bit more demanding. so I would say there is no need of doing this.
 
This may be n00bish but doesn't that sound like an unintentional DDOS? The website must have been configured to answer a particular number of site requests, depending on the general usage pattern. By artificially bumping the usage, won't it harm the site access in some manner?

EDIT: Oops, didn't read the post above. That was what I meant in my post too.
 
Saw this happen on another tech site. Regular members were perplexed as to the exponential number of both members and guests on line.

The site owners were having a bit of fun. Some thing like a cookie time out feature or some such, on the servers. Members/guests seem to be present, whilst they have been long gone.

A record on the forum as in why?
This is not some sort of record.
It would be like those star parivar awards.
Makes no sense to me.

i think this review was beginner guide to linux which had around 56k views on single day...

Some folks write good articles.

Other so called 'quality members' hide behind excuses of ebay coupons :P
