Guys really need your advise here, I am looking for DTH connections as cable operator raised monthly prices. I need Travel XP channel as my family members watch it. Which one is advisable in Mumbai, Bhandup area. How is Dish TV? There packages seems decent. Please reply. Thanks.

Don't really know on Which DTH TravelXP is available. You can go with Tata Sky or D2H, depending on your requirement. Both are good.

i i nitially planning to go for videocon dth, but they have levied HD access fee now :( and no other option but take Platinum HD pack costs 550 per month. Hence I am thinking of getting dish TV which works around 420 per month.

^ Dish TV can be okay, I am not sure about their service in Mumbai. Generally they have third class service else where.

am not in a position to suggest which DTH should you subscribe to, but i've been a tata sky service-user since 2007-2008, in Thane, and apart from 1-2 instances of delay in service and once an old STB gone bust (but promptly replaced), the user experience has been good. though please be mindful, that tata sky is said to be a little costlier than its competitors. AV-quality is good, esp. of the english movie-channels, and i have subscribed to those particular channels to watch them in HD on my TV. don't know about travelxp. you may have a chat with them to know about it.

HD access-fee is levied in tata sky too. infact, i think it was the first or/and the only one to do so since the beginning of the HD-scene on DTH.
i've cycled between various packs in the previous years, and am now on their 'dhamaal-mix pack', 'HBO defined' pack, 'English movies' pack, and HD access pack since an year or so (added HBO pack recently). TV-viewing is very less at my home. news, some portion of SAB TV, and the movies are watched by us here, the English ones mostly be me. please let me know if you have any other query regarding user-experience. will try to answer as properly as i can.

P.S. - am using an HD+ STB with PVR. had got it for 50% off (or for free? most probably not!) with my TV 3 years back.

confirmed with cc of Tata sky.. Travel XP HD is not available. After my research, the Travel XP HD channel is only available with Dish TV and Videocon :(
Thinking to go with Dish TV.. their True HD stb costs 999 till 31st december under icici offer. and the monthly charges will be 400 for the channels which I needed.
Let me know your thoughts on the same, maybe guys using dish tv can comment more on this.
@swatkats , @Kilroyquasar -- Thanks for your comment.

Also confirm from other DishTv Customers whether they are offering Real HD channel or Just scaling up the resolution to brag they're offering HD Channels. They were doing this 2 years back.

SD channels upscaled to HD on Dish TV seems to have become a thing of the past now. most HD channels are true HD on DTV now, going by what owners tell. let's see if any DTV user here can elaborate.

Tata Sky should be the last option if people want decent number of HD channels, they don't have any bandwidth and they have done absolutely nothing to solve this problem in years, Tata Sky is minting money just on the brand name.

Hey RS4, seeing your post in a long time! :)

TS has been harping on increasing the no. of channels since past few years, saying that after some slated satellite launch, they would include more channels. don't know what happened to that. but i've seen a few channels being added to their list, one of them being that channel, that i and many other people had requested them to include months back, threatening to migrate to other DTH service-providers if they still carried on not paying heed. and 1-2 months back, i was very glad to notice that channel finally being included!

Regarding HD, i cut out many rage-and-melancholy inducing (ie, 'news') channels and some other useless ones, cricket and some other mainstream commercial sports i don't follow, so never had any need of channels for those, and then subscribed to the English movies pack, the HBO defined pack, and HD access, and now i have more than a decent number of very good AV-quality HD channels for my wants (though i suppose still less than the competition, but for me, ATM i don't feel the want for more than nat geo HD, discovery HD, and HD channels for movies to be enjoyed on my 50" Plasma TV and HTS :D)! never been glad'der' with my TS connection and package(s)! :joyful:

True we have both Tata Sky HD and Dish TV HD at my sis place. Picture quality wise TATA Sky far is better whereas HD channel on Dish TV doesn't seem to be a HD.

I do post in the forums but not at the same frequency as before, yeah Tata Sky is still a good option if people already have the set-top box, even a Tata-sky hater like me has two Tata Sky HD boxes but only because i don't want to go though changing providers but it is a fact that Tata Sky is the most unethical and chor DTH provider in India, they are crying about bandwidth shortage since 5-6 years and not ready to do anything about it while at the same time they kept on increasing prices every year. Minting money just on brand name and slightly better service like Airtel. Tata Sky is the Airtel of the DTH world !!

DTH provider portability is required just like Mobile number portability, so that we are not chained to any DTH provider, anyways it works on card functionality and should be easy to implement.

hehe. could be, although price-wise they indeed are leading the pack (in charging more)! if am not wrong, i had read somewhere that the HD access fee (or it was something else, can't recall, but most probably this only) was levied by tata sky so that they could recover the money they lost in some court battle some years back! and now D2H has also followed suite! heh! :sour:[DOUBLEPOST=1419445764][/DOUBLEPOST]

and i read that dish tv has now more, if not all, HD channels in 'true HD'. :meh:

Guys, Thanks for your comments, but got little confused. My family members watch Marathi channels, SAB tv in sd but some members are saying SD channels quality is not on par, and I am having 46" samsung LED.. so not yet able to finalized. I will be vising chroma today, to see if i can get demo of DishTV.

so did you go to croma? what's your conclusion? as raksrules mentioned about incable, hathway could also be an option. had you checked about them earlier?

Finally went with Dish TV after seeing it at my friends home, HD channels looks good, SD channels are average. All cable operators in my area raised rates to approx 400 rs/month for SD channels only.
