What is Deer Park?

The Deer Park Alpha release candidates are preview releases of Deer Park (the codename for Mozilla Firefox 1.1) that are aimed primarily at developers. More end-user-centric betas are expected to be available closer to the final 1.1 release.

Based on the Mozilla 1.8 Beta 2 code, the Gecko engine included in these candidate builds is about one year of development improved since the Gecko that shipped in Firefox 1.0, according to mozilla.org. Major changes have also been made to the extension system. As a result, XUL application developers, extension and theme developers, and Web developers are the primary audience for the upcoming Alpha.

What's New?

"Sanitize" privacy feature: The "Sanitize" feature provides an easy way to quickly remove browsing history, cookies, cache, saved form information, and other personal data. The items to be removed can be customized, and the feature can be activated using either a keyboard shortcut or through a menu item.

Image thumbnails as tab icons: When viewing images, tab icons now display thumbnails of the displayed image.

Fast back (and forward): This very experimental feature allows much faster session history navigation. The feature is off by default but can be enabled for testing purposes by setting the browser.sessionhistory.max_viewers preference to a nonzero number.

Anonymous FTP login failure behaviour: FTP users are now prompted to input a name and password if anonymous access fails.

CSS at-rule for matching on site/document URL: The new @-moz-document rule gives users the ability to match page objects per-site, using CSS. This makes it possible to include site-specific rules in user style sheets (userContent.css). David Baron's post to www-style explains how the rule can be used.

Report a broken website wizard: Users now have a simple tool for reporting websites that aren't working in Firefox. If installed (Reporter is a custom install option for this release) the tool can be accessed from "Report Broken Website" on the Firefox Help menu.

this look like something new.. or maybe i don't know the extension///

maybe will wait for the final version. nothing that grt here to download and spoil a good stable ff version i have

The nightly firefox builds (1.0+) are way better than the stable releases. Definitely recommended to all, infact, the CVS versions are probably even more up to date. Definitely worth checking :thumb:

Any idea where to find the latest firefox source on the FTP server? The link has only the binaries and that too only for windows

you mean to say nightlies are stable...
atleast my experience is not so. Last i used one, it crashed the whole profile along with major speed issues. Its a test version and it definately is not for general users imho

I think otherwise...I have been using it for 4-5 hours now and NO CRASHES!! This proves that its quite stable actually. Did I mention tat its based on new Gecko which seems to have fixed the memory leak issue.
I dunno if I'm dreaming or not but to me it feels like its using lot less memory and is a bit faster than its predecessor. :P

hmm maybe.. looks like i will download it then..
but i was speaking in general. If one alpha is stable is certainly no guarantee that all are. Infact most aren't. Thats why they are developer releases.

Hmm well I try out loads of nightly and unofficial builds, I have found them just as stable, but of course, mileage varies.

I just backup the profile directory using "cp -r ~/.mozilla ~/mozbackup". It should be possible in windows too.

BTW, moz is a very complex browser, so sometimes using unofficial optimised buils can help. Check http://pryan.org/phoenix/ :thumb:

lol... yep stipes are one of the best builds around.. just before seeing this thread i wrote in the ff thread the same thing to acers ;)

Btw i am not against using nightlies,, i myself play around. Its just that i won't recommend it for normal casual users or as primary web browser. There is always a risk of a crash involved and its important that you keep that aspect in mind always.

I have been using Firefox since a long time now,i used to beta test the nightlies & what i can say from my experience is that if your not an advance user then don't use the nightly builds,it is very unstable while using it with extensions & themes, unless you don't use extensions & themes.

When Firefox dev's need their browser to be tested they usually ask people through websites that are affiliated with Firefox like Mozillana.org & others,as for the "Alpha Build" it is a stable build otherwise they would have not released it to the public through their website.

i used the Moox optimized builds prior to version 1 and they were nice, but now i am using the official ones :)

its a great browser after opera
