So my Creative zen has stopped working, I want a player with good audio quality but more importantly should atleast have 20Gb storage. My trance collection builds up in no time and anything less then 20gb is a pain...

I am a lil hesitant on Apple's Ipod, its audio quality was noticeably inferior to my creative player last I checked.

Budget is 10-12k...

You can get a third generation Zune for that price , the US price is ~230$ , dont know about the India price , if you need something cheaper , checkout the Cowon iAudio X5L , if you need a flash based solution , checkout Sandisk Sansa E270 , audio quality is good , u can buy a 16 gb microsd card along with it

How about a COWON D2 8/16 GB with a SDHC card to make it 20GB or more. Audio quality is far better than the iPod's (In fact one of the best out there) and it lives up it its playback time of 52 hours for audio.

My sis uses it for a min for 45 hours before having to put up for a rechage. Its very compact, but the screen is still brilliant for video playback though you would not enjoy video on such a small screen. battery lasts for alteast 3 eng movies.

I think the 16GB unit costs around the 12k mark and optionally you can add a 16G SHDC card for a total of 32GB.

Hmm arent there any Creative or Cowon HDD based players, cause size is not a big issue, the mP3 player is for daily 3 hrs journey to and fro from work and will remain in my haversack.

Also arent the Zunes available here in India ?

Creative pretty much went out of hte HDD market after teh Zen W, you might still find one but its outta production and a generation old.

Everyone has pretty much shifted to flash except for some larger PMPs like Archos and the Cowon A3 etc. For normal Audio use, Flash is the option esp if u dont want the ipod/zune. Especially since most PMPs >15k in India at least.

Try the creative zen or the Cowon D2. Decent players and you can again use SD cards to expand memory as required.

+1 for cowon D2.... You can carry many number of SD cards as per your requirements.
16GD SD costs 25USD from Newegg.com...get two of them if you want.

Nah dont want old Creative players, because those idiots stop driver support immediately, I could not find any drivers for my zen to make it work in Vista..

Also Zune aint available in India. I guess will give Alfa in Mumbai a visit, but I guess will need to go the apple way this time around :)

I'm very happy with my Zune 80gb especially with the latest firmwares/software with the only gripe being about the battery life(about 14-15hrs for audio).

The cowon iaudio7 16gb and the sony nzw 16gb have pretty high battery life(probably 8-9k). One of my friends has the iaudio7 8gb(got for about 5k) and I can vouch for its audio quality, battery life and straightforward use(it directly shows up in explorer). I still am uncomfortable with its interface though.

I would say Cowon is the best choice , some models even support FLAC.

PS- the golden era of creative seems to have gone after Vision W. But do check Creative Zen X-Fi i guess it should sell around 12k , u can add SD card & get extra space.

Ok are Zune officially available in India. I mean with warranty, if I am spending around 10-12k might as well get something with local warranty.

Anyways will keep this thread updated after a visit to Alfa. Any other place in Mumbai where MP3 players are sold ?

Are you not interested in COWON D2?.

Many ppl suggested it.. I was also going to suggest it, but thought of putting up this question instead :bleh:

COWON D2, I feel is overpriced... am gonna use the ep630 earbuds only, my main criteria is storage capacity. I am gonna transfer a sizeable trance collection (40-50gb) on the player, hence want the large hdd based players. Nevertheless will check with someone in Mumbai who has the Cowon player.. bikey, Techead or someone will be having will check the sound quality and decide if its worth the price premium...

If space is a pressing matter go for the Ipod classic but then u have to compromise on audio quality compared to a cowon !!

The Zune has never been launched officially AFAIK, so no warranty.

The Ipod seems ur only bet in the high capacity market, esp f u want warranty.
