Laptops MSI CR400 ATHEROS AR9285 WLAN N ADAPTER 65Mb/s speed with linksys wag120n - plz help

My msi cr400 lappy with atheros ar9285 wlan adaptern with draft N support gives file transfer speed in N mode and MIXED mode of only 3-3.5 Mb/s & sometimes 3.5 - 4 mb/s (when placed 10 mts away) and 5.5 – 6 mb/s (when placed near) my LINKSYS wag120n draft 2.0 N router. Under wireless status it shows 65 mb/s 

Tried all settings under the router like 20mhz/auto radio band, MIXED/ mixed b/g mode and even N-only mode under wireless settings and during the process of changing through my lappy I can see that the speed changes to 150 mb/s for a couple of seconds and then reverts to 65 mb/s..

Situation is the same in both win 7 and XP. Have the latest BIOS and drivers.
Is this an issue with the router or my lappy adapter ??

I read from certain websites that the atheros ar9285 isnt that good, Is this right ?.

I am getting 2.5 – 3 speed in G mode (10 mts dt.) So I should get atleast 5 – 6 speed in N mode (10 mts dt.), right ??

Have also contacted Linksys support, they don’t know what to do and asking me to change MTU size. I suspect that the MTU is between the ISP and the router. So it has nothing to do with wireless between the router and my lappy, right ??

CR400 users using N mode plz help me…..

ok --- a small tip --- use windows 7 driver upgrade tool to install the latest driver instead of downloading the one from MSI's site or using google to get the driver. this has worked for me in past and its the best and easiest solution. However do uninstall the existing atheros drivers first.

in opendrivers.com i found the latest driver for this adapter and its the same as before. may i know the latest driver version of your wireless adapter ??. Mine is 9.0.0.173 in Win7...

in windows 7 i use this version--8.0.0.238 getting best results with it!

thanx, will try that, BTW if you are operating it in N mode may i know the speed you get ??

not operating it in N mode at home. at work i had N mode--don't remember the speeds though.

finally i made it working at 150mb/s, however i get only 6.5 - 7 mb/s when away from 10 mts...

What is the driver version that are you using for using Atheros wifi chip? Consider getting it checked with Msi's service center.
