Sadly, I don't have any local contacts. The friend of mine who deals in hardware and stuff, I really have no hope of getting any information from him. Generally, the hardware guys do not share information which are useful for them to earn money. I asked the PrimeABGB guys if they have any idea of local guys, but they don't.

I am just hoping that the CPU is fine. That will relieve some heartache :)

sorry for the trouble you are having mate..i will check with my dealer and post back if he can repair the board or not?

Thanks, devvfata1ity. I appreciate your help :)

Ok...my friend tested the CPU and here's what happened. The test motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H55M-S2 and has integrated video. On powering up the system, there is no display, and the keyboard lights do not come on. The heatsink fan on the processor is moving on powering up...but no display. I recall reading somewhere that a discrete graphics card is needed when using this board with an i7 CPU, but I maybe wrong. He has no access to a discrete display card, as he tested it on a client's system. Also, I am unsure that the rotating heatsink fan is a sign that the processor is fine. I would really like to test if the processor is working and would really appreciate anyone in Mumbai helping me out with checking if the processor works fine. :)

PM'ed Rahul from TheITWares. Hope he can help or atleast point me to some one who can. :)

^^ I'll suggest you not to go for repair right away

Do one thing if the mobo socket pins are bent then take a small PIN or something like that very thin and pointed and try to straighten the Mobo's pin if that can be done , take the mobo with processor to the MSI service center and tell them that you are not sure which one is faulty and ask them to check if they can check the same and if board is faulty they can then take the same for RMA.

No Dealer will normally have a 1156 Mobo just like that for checking but service centers normally have them so you can try the above i think it should work if the Pins can be unbent

Thanks for the advice, Rahul. :)

My usual experience with service centers has never been pleasant. Also generally, they will take the motherboard and CPU from you and then ask you to fill forms and tell you to come back after two days or whenever. In my case, the motherboard socket pins are bent, so I really don't know if they'd want to touch the board. Less work for them that way. That has been my experience, I don't know about others. Guess, my options are really slimming down. :(

Please post a few pics of the CPU socket on the motherboard- some close-ups and some not-so-close-ups.

Will give an idea how bad it is.

The rest depends on the pics/severity of damage and your luck. :)

Hey my mobo lga 775 pins were also bent, so I just straightened them with a plucker(hope you understand) and I inserted very small piece of squarely cutted paper so that the pins don't touch other pins. You can try it,hope it helps. And guys if dtdc do this type of fiddling then which courier service is best for this type of shippings.

Bluedart should be the best, but they would prolly charge around 1000 bucks or so for a mobo, may be more, 1000 bucks without insurance, with insurance at least double of that :(

I am still betting you did not put that socket cap in place. I've sent a bunch of motherboards via DTDC - absolutely no harm done. Please stop being a smart ass and stop blaming it on the courier!

OMG! They charge very high, but aren't shipping costs related on the weight of the packet, and what is dtdc's cost.
And sorry for the offtopic.

I really do not want us TE members to call each other names or fight. I am sure Gannu has my best interests on his mind and Rite didn't do anything on purpose. Rite also has offered me his help in cash and kind. He is ready pay for the charges to fix the motherboard using his local SMC International contact. Call me an optimistic, but I am just trying to get the issue resolved here.
I spoke to my hardware guy later in the evening today and he said that the pins cannot be fixed by hand. It requires professional help. I don't have a camera with me right now or else I would have posted a few pics. He has no ETA for the board to come back to me if I give it to him for fixing. On an average, he said that it will take at least 15 days. Now comes Rite's option. That needs me to ship back the motherboard to him and he will send it to SMC International, pay for the repairs and ship it back to me. My concern, DTDC is the only affordable option and after this episode, I don't know if I should trust them with fragile electronics. Of course, this does not solve my issue of trying to check if the processor is still alive. If only someone can help me out to check my processor, that would atleast solve a part of the issue. :)

If u decide on sending it back to Delhi i can help u send it back to Delhi via TNT will take a nominal amount for sending the same back

Get it to my office if u decide on sending it back to delhi

Thanks for the offer, Rahul. Let me speak to Rite and I'll get back to you on this. Mostly, I will come over on Saturday to your office. In the meanwhile, let me see if I can get the CPU checked. Thanks :)

Update! Update!

Spoke with a person over at a distributor at Lamington Rd and asked to check the CPU. They will charge me for the service, but at least I'll get to know if the CPU is working. Going there on Saturday so wish me luck, guys! :)

Over the phone, the person told me that they are gonna charge me Rs.300 as a 'service' charge. I dunno if they are gonna give me a bill or not for that.
