From what i understand, from this link posted by "Hitman":

Is Bridge mode is like using the RASPPPOE (Remote access service Point to point protocol over ethernet) client to dialinto ur router, authenticate and access internet service right?? just like dial-up (PPP - point to point protocol) we connect disconnect.
What i am doing is disabling(using the windows "devcon" utility) the network connection by shutting down(disconnect) the LAN card connected to the router so that no unwanted download/upload takes place thus saving my bandwidth before 12:00 AM "if i am going to sleep with my PC ON". The bridge mode in this case cud be considered as an alternative to my method.
Port forwarding wudn't be a problem with these scripts. Just schedule to enable the NIC before the router reboots.
See understand there are two level of security:
1) Firewalling
2) Service - IP - Binding : meaning configure the service say for example "ftp" to listen either on:
* all networks : 0.0.0.0:21
* 192.168.1.0 network : 192.168.1.2:21
to understand just run the command: netstat -na

Most download managers have the option to schedule downloads and shutdown the machine after download completion.
The one i am using currently is Internet Download Accelerrator. Before that i liked Internet download manager alot.
Builtin XP task scheduler is what i am using to schedule jobs
