multiple probs due to viruses

hello,

I am having multiple problems on my windows machine.. I run a genuine (our col gives a free copy to everyone :P) windows XP pro. I had nod 32 antivirus plus comodo firewall.. Now downloaded Bit defender ( all trial ).

problems..

1) My taskbar is not showing all the applications.. I am not able to see the 'click to expand' button.

2)When comodo was present it used ask my approval for some weird dll file everytime (the name changes everytime random junk) I open any app.

3)Can't search on Google or Yahoo !! I can see their home page.. Click on search nothing happens.. tried in IE, Opera and Mozilla.. I have disabled all odd looking plugins which were present.. Still no luck.

4) last but not the least - my windows update is disabled.. I can't enable it. If I click on enable it shows its enabled but on the main screen it is still disabled..

please help :S
 
kaspersky takes forever to scan my system.. I have MATLAB and it has infinite files in it.. Nod 32 detected a virus, was not able to clean it. I scanned the system with kaspersky online scanner though. Clean chit.

I am not so comfy with Avira... Bitdefender is any day better..
 
I can't disable an add on in IE. If I disable it, the next time I restart IE I get the same darn thing.. Its called cdpwanbq.dll !! can someone help?
 
dont sweat it...just back up ur stuff and format...start fresh...coz i have been troubled with virus for long time now...tried everything....but sometimes like in ur case it too widespread....almost nothing works!!!
n even if u mange to rescue ur system..u will be altering u sys files...means ur computer will never be the same....
let this be the last resort...keep tryin! cheers

Need to second this.
Once you get fresh system.. install a good AV and scan your backup files before you start using it...

obviously u are now infected.
first u should never disable auto update->help in bug fixes , prevents viruses

secondly u no longer have comodo.
buddy it will protect ur pc better than any anitivrus.
just make sure that u make correct policies for each app

eg. when it is asking for a dll to run , see what kind of dlll is it? see its properties , is it a signed dll?
first don't give permission to access that dll. does that stop/crash that app? if yes than that dll was necessary and must be given permission.
man comodo is hard work initially but after that ur computer gets black belt security.

agree with freak86...backup all ur important data....do a complete format of ur system and reinstall the OS.....with a fresh copy of ur favourable Antivirus...
i wud prefer Bitdefender...its:ohyeah: awesome...
 
try system restore if you don't wanna format your system.

Before giving in to formatting try the following:

Try running a check with an antispyware

Use this and see if it works for you.

And if all of these fail you can format (which is the easye thing to do).
 
You should try using anti-rootkits. Rootkits aren't viruses, but they're more harmful, they take away your control of your computer. You'll need to download multiple ones and run them to be able to detect anything.

these are a few, what you really need to do is check your symptoms with forums online, and see what you're infected with, and then download something that'll take care of your problem. But, removing some rootkits isn't worth the hassle, so it may just be easier to re-install windows.
