Re: Heads up for Mumbai Suburban residents

^ Yes I had shown a similar calculation in this thread Switching to Tata Power from reliance energy yesterday.

There is one error in your info. You have put FAC only for Tata. Actually this charge is common to both. I have always had this in my RInfra bill. Am I missing some latest info?

What does the 1 Phase , 3 Phase means ?

The thing is that, for the past 2 months reliance is CREDITING 23p/unit. Thats why i didnt put it up in the calculations.

You most probably have single phase. Most normal homes do. At least in the suburbs.

That is because they had overcharged in the past and were ordered by MERC to do it. I have no clue why they do it this way. The better way would have been to credit the consumer's account with the excess charged in the past.

Instead, they give you a per unit credit on current consumption. That is where people like you and me will lose because we will stop receiving credit for the past excess payment.

In my case the loss was worse because my consumption was higher in the months when they charged the higher FAC and dropped significantly in October when they gave the credit because I was out for a week.

Any such plans for Delhi in future.. ??
why don't you call them on their toll free number and ask?

do we need to give an application to reliance for disconnection of their electricity or is it done internally between tata and reliance??

No you don't have to do anything with Rinfra. Just apply to Tata Power for changeover and everything is handled for you. Just make sure you don't have large amount of money given to Rinfra as a deposit as you may have to make an effort to recover it.

Have consume 66 unit for this period, so the amount will less than my security deposit, have to see how they refund the rest of the amount.

Look at the bright side. Now your bill for the month gets split over two suppliers. That way you get the benefit of the low tariff for the first 100 units from both. :)

Though I must admit the Reliance tariff for the lowest slab is almost the same as TP for the next slab.

I really want to know how would the service be handled , response time anyone got the bill ?

I haven't got my first bill yet. I have tried and failed to login to my account on their website using the account number assigned by them. I guess it may get activated after they raise the first bill. With Reliance I have been paying online for years. I intend to do the same for TP.

Edited Dec 7: Was able to login today. They have probably just added me to their database. My first bill will be raised within 35 days of joint meter reading date (Nov 16). By the way, they don't have credit card payment operational yet. Netbanking is there though.

So how much was the reduction in bill ? And what would happen if i'm the only one with Tata Power and Rest Reliance ?

As per News Paper (Mumbai Samachar Dt: 8-12-2010) After August 15- 2011 Mumbai May get more than 2, may be 2-3 more suppliers other than TATA & REL

I have yet to receive my first bill as I have stated. I have shown the estimated saving in the thread started by you. Here too, user Singam has shown his calculations.
It doesn't matter a bit if you are the only one in your building with TP while others are Reliance. If you apply, they will change it.

^ You better call them on 1 800 209 5161 and ask. Their CC seem to know their job quite well.

woohoo I got my first Tata Power bill. All calculations are exactly as disclosed by TP and anticipated by me. So saving is big.

Can't give you exact figures because my bill is for 20 days only and so it amounts to still lower. But the working I had shown in the other thread where the saving for 270 units per month is around Rs 500/- still stands. In my case the saving might actually be even higher.

My 20 days consumption has been measured as 132 units. With the wheeling loss, this is billed as 145 units. Based on past data, my monthly consumption with the Reliance connection would have been definitely over 240 units. But with the new meter, if I extrapolate the 20 days consumption it comes to less than 220 units even after adding wheeling loss.

Bottom line is that my Reliance bill was in the region of 1300/- per month. This bill is for 532/- for 20 days.

I can divert the savings to a faster broadband plan. :D

Well for me, the refund of security deposit has to taken from reliance customer care as there was a goof-up of bill calculation.:(
The Nov bill(sept24th-nov24) had the due date as 18th dec, i paid the amount on 7th.
As me changeover was on 1st dec, Reliance issued another bill Dec-10 (Nov24th-Dec1st) it was issued on 4th dec, so they added the previous bill amount (Nov-10) plus the current one Dec-10 minus the security deposit.
Since i had already paid the Nov-10 bill, wrote to reliance about the incorrect Dec-10 bill, they have credit the balance amount, but would have to go their customer care centre for the cheque/DD(its the company policy).

Wish i had listened to my mom and not paid the Nov bill early, All this could have been avoided.
On top of it, the guy bringing the Dec-10 bill comes the very next day on 8th after i had paid the Nov-10.:@

OK I got my second bill, the first for a whole month. I confirm the savings. Not only that but the Tata meter appears to read lower than the Reliance one so the savings will be even better.

Units consumed = 193. Adding wheeling loss, the billable units becomes 212, much lower than the 240 I could have expected from Reliance going by my previous bills from last year. Off course comparing December 2009 to December 2010.

Sorry for the bump.

But now i have decided to change my 2 homes meter to tata.

In my bills i have pending security deposit of reliance.

Q-1:: DO i need to pay reliance security deposit completely before going to tata power?

Q::2 On paper i see a security deposit of 1k for tata .WOnt reliance transfer the same to tata from them or should i have to pay the same.and ask for refund from reliance?

Q::3 ALso i was planning to change one of our office meter to tata but onsite i see security deposit of 20k?Is that true?Because on reliance my unpaid sd is around 2-3k whereas paid is 2-3k similar so total of 5k in reliance.

Note::I got the 3rd question one wrong its 200 for residential and 1k for commercial .20k was for units consuming 4k units per month

You will have to pay the pending security deopist to reliance as there is no transfer of money from reliance to tata even when you have a credit in the reliance.
I had a credit of 1200rs after adjustments of security deposit against the last bill. Had to go the reliance customer care in kandivali to get the refund. They will credit it to your bank account after submitting the required doc.
Though i am yet to get the money, its been over a month.
