As the name says..ill be needing a music system with pretty good sound effects . .

am not a audiophile so a .1% loss is quality is not a problem;) . . the car currently has a sony xplod player with some POS speakers.. . . i will retain the player...:hap2: .. . . . will need new amps + speakers + woofer . . . any suggestions? .. . cheaper the better..:)

& Im a complete noob in this regard...till now i thought all the setup required would be 2 speakers in frnt & 2 in back & 1 woofer..(like a 4.1 for my pc..:ashamed: ) just went near a Blaupunkt dealer & he confused me like hell..

Explain this concept for me please..abt the positioning of speakers , how many to go for . . . etc . My budget will be ~15K.

HU - Pioneer 3950/4950/5950/6950/7950

Front - JBL 607 Components / Soundstream 5 1/4"

Rear - JBL GTO937 6x9"

You simply can't go wrong with this setup :D

The best position for spekaers is usually in a place where you get best imaging. Since it's weird to have sound coming from behind you, the general accepted wisdom is that firewall sounds the best (which is somewhere near your feet) but since a lot of cars are built with the wheelarch as part of the cabin, that is near impossible.

The second best place is the door. Some cars build a space for component tweeters into the door, most of the times you will have to live with what is possible within the manufacturer's intentions. I know that the Accent has a big fugly plastic grill, that completely destroys the sound coming through the speakers. It is possible to mod, but you have to get someone to take a knife to it, and I wonder how comfortable you will be.

The worst place is on the dash facing upwards, because of early reflections. Dash facing forward is OK, but you'll have a hard time with imaging as the listeners will always be off-axis on one speaker and not the other, causing asymmetry.

Sometimes the car manufacturer will be kind and allow a swivelling mount or a well-thought of audio solution, but swivelling tweeters is usually a better bet.

So, two speakers in the front is usually good enough.

Now if you want some amount of bass in your music, you need a sub. And a sub will need an amp. And for an amp to work, the HU needs to have a line out (should not be a problem, most of the ones made after 1995 do).

Then if you carry rear passengers, you need speakers in the back or else they will hear only bass.

I don't like the oval type speakers, but AFAIK the accent only has a provision for 6x9s. Could be wrong though.

can post prices also ?..:)

hmmm...ok..

i think i like the concept of frnt speakers..tat makes more sense..but as sangram said ... i dont want the people in back to be left away with only bass...:|

hmmm..was thinking..

Front - Jbl Compos for 4.5 to 5k.

Amp - Jbl 4/1

(& retain the local rear speakers..)

So i think i'll have a pretty good setup..& can add a sub later..:D..

wat say guys?

No, get the rear JBL, they ROCK !

For the HU get the 6950 (I paid 8.2k), GTO937 = 3.9k (Pair), front components should be around 5k

ok..prices i got.

JBL 607 - -> 5.8K (with bill )

JBL 508 - -> 4.8K ( with bill )

jbl 4 channel amplifier --> 6 K ( grey )

same amp 10K with bill..:|

...

and another BUMP.

Mugen_Power can advice you regarding this i guess.

THe stuff Anish posted is really good. Check out Rockford Fosgate as well. They came out with a new rear speaker (for ~5k i think). Friend has it in his accent as well (lol). Its brilliant! Can find out the exact model from him tomo.

thnx for your suggestions guys..:hap2:

some stuff installed a few mins back..

frnt - > 607 compos

rear -> left the POS speakers as it is..( sounds better with the amp.. )

amp -> JBL 60.4

woofer -> jbl 1000W

& with some good cabling it came to

"Rs.17000"

the next upgrade is planned in 2 or 3 months .. for a rear jbl speakers ( 5 way ) & a better HU .. LOL..

any idea how good is the Skoda Octa's HU ? .. a frnd has 1 lying around at his place..

Consider Soundstream for the rears. Its quite a freely available brand now. You can compare them with the JBL's at the store.

BTW I suggest you buy a new panel. I'm sure your local car electronics wallah will be able to sell off your old system. The player will make a noticeable difference.

Front - Jbl 607 Compos is a good choice.
Rear - When you spare some cash get a Jbl 6x9.
Amp - Jbl 60.4 is also good choice.

You should have to connect front compos to amp's 2 channels and subwoofer to another 2 channels. leave the pos speakers connected to head unit until you get new speakers ad headunit.:bleh:

and do post pics after installation.

^ For the rear's get the JBL GTO937 undoubtedly. The Skoda is a Blaupunkt, and switching to a Alpine unit was the first thing I did when my dad got his Skoda.
