Due to a momentary high voltage spike in our locality yesterday, there seems to have been voltage spike induced into my Reliance WAN cable from the local router/repeater and ended up in burning out the LAN port on my Asus P8P67 Deluxe motherboard with a loud bang, light and smoke. The physical damage looks localized to the LAN port, but I don't want to take any chances by trying to run my other more costly components with this burnt board. So looking for a replacement board.

I cannot find the same P67 board, but prime seems to have the P8Z68-V Pro GEN3 and P8Z68-V Deluxe GEN3 for 15k and 18k respectively. Which one is a better deal? Are the differences same as those between P67 Pro and Deluxe? i.e. apart from the cosmetic differences P67 Pro and Deluxe differed in the Voltage regulation features as well. do these differences exist with the Z68 Pro and Deluxe as well? Ultimately, I just want a board comparable to my P67 Deluxe.

With asus's high failure rate and rashi's poor service, I recommend msi z68 gd80 g3, gigabyte z68 still have boot loop issues I think

If you have to choose amongst asus, then the deluxe is the enthusiast range and pro is high end, both perform nearly the same, the deluxe is slightly better at oc

There's nothing you could do of the old board? I mean Rashi might cite hardware failure but won't they take it for repairs for some nominal charges assuming they have the knowhow to do the replacement of the damaged component? You can sell the board later instead of ditching it completely.

On a side note, I always felt glad to have ALL my devices in the home to access the internet and file sharing via the router. If something goes wrong it is only the 1.2k Buffalo router!

I have to see what I can do. The visible damage looks localized to that one LAN port (the Intel one) which is burnt and the board may even work despite that. However the blast and heat was still enough to put a small hole in the metal casing that the port resides in.

I too prefer having the internet connection through my WiFi router, but mine is working well for some reason and I had to connect it directly to the computer.

^ Sorry to hear of that mishap. Can you please upload some pics of the mobo and damage area and post the links here?

Ordered the Asus P8Z68-V Deluxe GEN3 from Prime in the end.

Just FYI, it's P8Z68 DELUXE/GEN3.

No 'V' in the model name as there are no display connectors like DVI/HDMI at the rear I/O area. But the iGPU is still accessible and has Lucid Virtu works, usable in d-mode only.

If yone prefers to have display connectors onboard for using i-mode in Lucid Virtu or multi-monitor support, then one should consider the P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3.

Here are some pics...

And yeah, the Z68 board is fine, Apart from the old board, the CPU and SSD drive were also damaged. Got a new CPU (2500k) yesterday and its booting fine with the same old RAM.

The CPU does not have any signs of signs of damange and neither does the SSD.
