Specswise the Xeon 3040 is exact same as E6300,just that it is sold as Xeon which is a Server level CPU, there is a possibility of getting a better Core/Silicon in it than Retail E6300.
And no, it doesnt beat the 6600.Just that 6300 shows the Core as Allendale and the 3040 shows the Core as Conroe just like 6600/6700/X6800.

I hope that clears your doubts. ;)

Congrats on the cpu darky. Just asking, but why the need to buy this for ut b**ch rig(in place of the E6300)? u arent gonna OC it like crazy are you?
 
yeah....he seems to have given up oc'ing..... I guess he faced really stiff competition from the others like Supra, Karan, Adi, Chaos, etc...

I hope at least this comment angers him enough to come back with a bang :p
 
Did u by chance miss the E6320 ?? the extra L2 should have been a bit .. .. but hey whatever man .. this is an AWESOME buy .. now .. hit 3 GHz plz. plz. :D ..
