my computer/system dialog box not appearing

And I do get the Device Manager when I Start -> run - > devmgmt.msc.
And abt the hardware not being recognised, it was FINALLY recognised. And I have not changed any setting in the Plug and Play stuff.....
And I will try using another account on the system and see if it works fine...........

In the second picture , the setting "Remove properties from the my computer....." , double click on it . then select "disabled". then click apply.
reboot. and post ur observation.
 
open Computer Management: click Start, and then click Control Panel. Click Performance and Maintenance, click Administrative Tools, and then double-click Computer Management.

In the console tree,(left hand side , top) right-click Computer Management (Local), and then select Properties.

what do you get ???

do you get the 3 tabs of the system properties ??

if so in the advanced tab, Environment variables option, system variables section, check the values of the "path" and "pathext"

ps: Is the display properties (right click on the desktop -> properties.) cmd working ...?
 
Ok.... when I right click on properties on my desktop, it works fine.... NO PROBLEMS with that.

But when I went to computer management(local) and right click and click on properties ---- here is what I get ----

This is what I get after I click OK on that error box.

Now what???

hi nikhil,

to recover the corrupt wmi information in the registry i googled for the easiest way and here is what is found.
"You can force an auto-recover of the default information stored in the repository this way:"
1) boot into"safe mode"

- open a command window (start > cmd.exe)

- type "net stop winmgmt"

- type "cd %windir%\system32\wbem"

- type "ren repository repository.old" (or alternatively delete it)
It may take a minute or so to complete while WMI rebuilds the database."
reboot
and post back ur observations....
 
Ok.... I did everything...... but when I typed "ren repository repository.old" , nothing happened....It just went back to the command prompt

C:\Windows\system32\wbem>.

Nothing happened.

And then I went to the system 32 folder and deleted the repository.old folder itself(I hvae it in my recycle bin). and rebooted.

And still nothing. The problem persists.....
 
reinstall service pack 2 for xp and try.

at the most you will have to download & reinstall all the post sp2 windows update , that is if you had not saved them before ....

Ok..... Reps were justified :bleh:

Installed SP2 again from a Digit CD.

But now the "properties boz" in Internet tools is not opening.



What do I do now?? but the system icon in Control Panel is back and I get the computer propertieds when I right click on my computer -> Properties.

Please help Deejay.

And anyone else also.... please

no problem.... I ahve had this problem for so many days, I guess a few more days will not make a difference. Take your time....
 
did the ie properties work before you installed sp2 ? try using a different copy of win xp that comes with sp2 slipstreamed.
 
No.... It was not working even before.... I thought that installing SP2 would correct that also. And when the original problem in this thread(the my computer --> Properties system dialog box) was solved, I thought that this would also be working fine.... but nope.. :(
