How good is it for note-taking? I currently use Kindle Scribe for taking notes, and it is a great device with excellent battery back-up and large screen size.

The stylus needs to be purchased separately and its pretty pricey. Not sure if cheaper ones work. I also read negative feedback on its palm rejection.

So, it is safe to conclude that my initial issues with the battery life were due to high brightness levels (37%) and sideloading of error-filled books

If you really like the device and have decided to keep it for long time , then the moment you start seeing noticeably less battery life it's time to plan around procuring a spare battery and do not wait for it to be completely unusable.

I have a Kobo GLo HD that I bought when it was introduced. It's battery gradually degraded and has been unusable since the past 2 years. Now I'm finding it hard to source the battery. Indian retailers who had it are now saying out of stock and it's not exactly an obscure device.

Get spares beforehand instead.(if stored correctly, battery degradation due to being idle should be negligible).

I would urge you and anyone else reading this to be very careful with jailbreak on Kindle and avoid it if possible. Especially if you have passed the 1-year warranty period.

It's very easy to brick your kindle into an unrecoverable state. Kindle is an locked-down device and there are no recovery options in general. Read the mobileread forums for such reports from users.

It took me less than 10 minutes to jailbreak it. The current method using Mesquito is quite easy to follow and seems way less risky.

Of course, that is my personal opinion. Everyone should do their own due diligence.
I would not advise anyone to do it if they haven't done so before and aren't used to jailbreaking/rooting their devices.

As the beginning of my review states, I don't use the device for note-taking and I didn't purchase the Kobo stylus. However, I did once randomly try to write on the device with a 3rd party caseu brand stylus meant for an Apple iPad and it didn't work on the KLC. As per my research, any stylus that supports MPP 2.0 protocol will work with the KLC but no 3rd party stylus is available in India for the KLC. You can reconfirm or find new details on the above with your own research too.
