My mobo has sata1,sata2,sata3,sata5,sata6 connectors.

does it mean that i can connect 5HD in my system???
i already have one hitachi 80gb HD and one samsung 80gb HD in my system...now planning to add 1TB...

a lil correction to ur statement....although what u said is right....

u can attach any 5 devices that would run off SATA ports...:) now that can be 5 hdd's or 5 optical media drives :) or either in permutation / combination.....

Most mobos, i think there would be 6 SATA ports. 1 Would be eSATA, which you can see in the back panel of MOBO. So i believe you can connect 6 HDD's including 1 eSATA.

There would be of 2 , 4 , 6 (in that one or 2 will be eSATA) ports usually in motherboards

I think it depends on the Mobo. My MSI 790GX-G65 has 5 SATA ports but the 5th port is for RAID only. So I can use it only if my HDDs are in RAID. Normally I can use only 4 drives. e-Sata port is separate.
