My i5 2400, which I bought today, is showing 80C under load and 40C at idle in hwmonitor. Is it alright or should be worried ?

Re: Lots of problems in newly build i5 2400+MSI H67MA-E35

How you applied your thermal paste?do check your heatsink install.

Please be a bit more specific! With what utility did you monitor your load temperatures? What was the application running (for instance Prime 95, OCCT etc.) when you measured these load temperatures? Were you using the stock heatsink?

Did you check these temps from bios? Try re-seating the HSF and reapply TIM if it is not applied properly

HWMonitor is not that reliable. Get the latest version of CoreTEMP and RealTEMP off Google. Try not to stress the new baby, till this issue is not resolved. Probably a bad TIM application or incorrect HSF mount. Let us know.

Thanks, fixed it. Refitted the HSF and everything is fine now. Was on AMD for last 3 years, it was easier to fit. The screws on the Intel HSF were not getting locked properly but now its fine. Idle temp is in low 30s and 62c under load, i.e, while playing BC2 and during x264 encodes using all 4 cores.

Yes, there are 2 fans, one intake at the front of the cabinet and the other one at the back of the cabinet. Although, these temps are from core-temp, not bios. My previous processor, x4 635, would also go upto 65c under load.
