National anthem in cinema halls : how frequent ?

IMHO the trend was started in one of the Mumbai Theaters (I think Imax Wadala or Cinemax Sion, because these were the two theaters I visited during my initial stay at Mumbai). Now everyone has jumped on the bandwagon. The theater people are saying that it revives the patriotic feeling in us. I am not too sure about that. With all due respect, I see many people happily chomping food and chatting while its played. The national anthem is our pride, and shouldn't be used as a publicity stunt IMO.

I have also heard from many people that national anthem should not be played under a roof. However, never tried to verify it. However, the 52 seconds rule is there for sure, and I don't like all these fancy anthems either. I like the pace of the normal version, and its simplicity. Though as a song I would say that Vande Matram has more fervor.

I don't know if its true or not, but I think it is claimed by some people that Jana Gana Mana was written by Pandit Ravindra Nath Thakur for the welcome of the Viceroy of India. Again its hearsay, so I am not too sure about it.

Edit 11:10 AM:

The English Translation of our national anthem:

Translation into English

O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people[9]

Thy name rouses the hearts of Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, the Maratha country,

in the Dravida country, Utkala and Bengal;

It echoes in the hills of the Vindhyas and Himalayas,

it mingles in the rhapsodies of the pure waters of Yamuna and the Ganges.

They chant only thy name.

They seek only thy auspicious blessings.

They sing only the glory of thy victory.

The salvation of all people waits in thy hands,

O! Dispenser of India's destiny, thou art the ruler of the minds of all people

Victory to thee, Victory to thee, Victory to thee,

Victory, Victory, Victory, Victory to thee!.

And I guess those controversies are just our media trying to get something spicy as usual (even in 1927!)

I got all this from Wikipedia - Jana Gana Mana - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

More detailed info there, in case you are interested.
