Got a notification today about a new extension on the MS Store just like HEIC and AVIF ones for native .jxl support on Windows 11. Here's the link to download it.

MS Store

Other essentials many might've missed on their install that you can download as well.

HEIF Native: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9pmmsr1cgpwg?hl=en-US&gl=US
MPEG 2 (old) Native: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N95Q1ZZPMH4?hl=en-us&gl=IN&ocid=pdpshare
AV1 Native: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9MVZQVXJBQ9V?hl=en-us&gl=IN&ocid=pdpshare
HEVC Native (used to be free but now 54₹, just use VLC bruh; needed for some video editing apps though): https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NMZLZ57R3T7?hl=en-us&gl=IN&ocid=pdpshare

Obligatory F Microsoft for not making these part of a service pack update and slowly monetizing them.

Note: If you use a LTSC Windows 11 like I do, you will not have access to MS Store most probably, and you can install it manually through winget. Lookup winget documentation for that. Cheers.

Edit 2:

VP9 Native (Google's Video Codec): https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9n4d0msmp0pt?hl=en-us&gl=IN
WebP Native: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9PG2DK419DRG?hl=en-us&gl=IN&ocid=pdpshare
RAW Image Native (upto CR2, CR3's a bit buggy): https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NCTDW2W1BH8?hl=en-us&gl=IN&ocid=pdpshare

Thats A ok! But it will still take time to get into mainstream as still it's not widely supported by smart TVs and phones.
So, sharing jpg xl across media devices wont work anytime sooner. Might take a year or two to popularize this format esp. pro photographers shall benefit with it along with an option for all camera phones if the output shall be saved to a traditional jpg or xl.
