Xperia Mini SK15i is a pretty good deal @14K. Smaller dimension and chubby profile might be hit or miss but SE made good compromise by offering a great LED backlit LCD and good battery life.
Motorola Defy seems obvious for under 15K range and as DarkAngel found out in his looong thread, it beats the competetion blue! Defy+ should be a great upgrade but will definitely be >15K .
Next up will be Huawei X5 based purely on specs not considering ASS. The Scorpion+205 SoC is much better than Ace and has a Gorilla glass display unlike X6/MI410.
For Under 20K though you'll get much options. Starting with Defy+ of course(I'm of the opinion phones shouldn't be spoilt brats!) when it comes in Oct.
Galaxy S being over a year old, still remains a great buy. Specs wise it's complete and official CM7 support is bliss but I'm not too sold on its looks - glossy as hell and that sad looking home button.
Nexus S provides no advantage over SGS, instead it's got no gorilla glass, weaker GPU, no AMOLED and just as freaking glossy. ICS upgrade isn't a saving grace as SGS will get it as well thru CM7 anhyhoo.
LG black gets a honorary mention as well.

If you're a wait-er upcoming SE models looks quite appealing, Xperia Ray being a stand out with its high ppi display, 9.4mm thinness and 8MP exmor sensor cam.

Whats so special in Defy+. It has the same SoC. the current defy can easily be overclocked to that speed.

And Nexus S has a weaker GPU than Galaxy S? I thought they have the same GPU.
