Please suggest me a closed headphone, mainly for music and movies.Source will be a cowon v5 or ipod touch and laptop.Budget is strict this time:(,5k max.BTW I dont have an amp and not planning to buy any time soon.

grado sr60i if you have someone abroad get SR80i ( available for $100)
grados hardly need amps( alteast not 60 80 125)

....hmm ....sorry i read that but forgot to remember it when replying ......

but am curious ...why closed...why not open ear.....these usually have better soundstage?

AD700 are Open cans.
ATH M-50 are closed and should fit your budget (~100$).
JVC RX900 won't offer much in sound quality.
Check out Ultrasone Hfi-450 as well, but M50 is a no-brainer.
BTW anyone conducting a GO for M50?

^ my bad :p
For the same price choosing between A700 and M50 is a matter of personal inclination.
But here's a little perspective -
graphCompare.php

Dude frequency graphs are rather useless. The M50 may have more volume in the bass and sub bass frequencies and thats it.

The graph cannot tell you if the bass is tight or if the M50 highs sound harsh etc.

What are we here for ....???!( Help him get the best deal )

if you can settle for a bit less and second-hand ...the shure SRH 440 is available at a good condition her in TE ......for 3K good price ....(if the condition is what he promises)

SRH 440 are good phones, closed with good comfort

None of them have good cans in your budget IMO. And they aren't easy to drive either.
Yes,I know,but local availability is a priority.I can increase my budget a bit,another 2-3k at the most.

Dude......Shure 440 and 840's are very cold and blah(not the best musical terms but thats what i feel about it.) They are neither musical nor analytical. They just fail miserably. The A700 has a very small soundstage although makes up in the bass section which you wud not fully appreciate thru a portable source like the cowon.

M50 are your best bet and they're not as fugly as Grado's unless you were born in the 60's. They are musical and fun. Not really neutral but they're fun as hell.

Oh.thanks a lot, viralbug. Now please suggest me something decent from the list.Little tight on budget now as I need a laptop too.How is the Senn hd25?I know they are way over my budget but I can wait.

I was hoping you were willing to increase your budget. :P

Sennheiser is a company I really really like. But all their good headphones are the expensive variety. Their lower end headphones are simply no where near the competition.

Anyways the HD25-II is probably the best selling closed headphone in its price range.
