I know this has been discussed to death in more than one threads, but please bear with me.A friend of mine has lost my Canon 1000D:(.Going for long trip to North Eastern part of India and need to buy another DSLR.Budget 60k(body plus lens). No brand preference, but should not be too bulky.

If less bulk, then your friend would be happier with a Canon 550D/T2i. For 60k, he even has a choice of 18-55mm kit lens or 18-135mm kit lens.

550d + kit lens 18-55 IS + 50mm 1.8 + 55-250 IS = 58k. price is with bill and warranty
just got the same kit for a friend, great vfm!

+1 to what apollyon suggested...

SInce you want to travel light.. u can go for The 550D with the 18-135 kit lens... its for 59k in delhi with bill and warranty :)

Thank you guys for your suggestions,550D and 18-135 kit lens look tempting. But as I am not at all interested in hd videos, still somewhat biased towards D90.

^^

Mate... 550D and D90 both are just awesome cams. u wont go wrong either way.

But get the 550D with all the extra lenses.

^^ Err, old is gold ! :D

Also the D90 has the following advantages over the 550D

- Bigger/brighter Pentaprism viewfinder
- Better built body and arguably much better ergonomics
- Twin control dials (Probably the best reason to get the D90).
- ISO stops in 1/3rd stops compared to 1 stop as in the 550D. (In the D90, you get ISO values like ISO 320, ISO 640, ISO 1000 in addition to the normal 200, 400, 800, 1600).
- 11 AF points vs 9 AF points
- 4.5 fps vs 3.7 fps plus larger buffer
- RBG histogram vs plain histogram on the 550D
- Top LCD screen on the D90
- Automatic CA reduction vs no manual CA reduction
- More powerful built in flash (17 guide no vs 13 guide no)
- 850 shots per battery vs 440 shots per battery

The 550D in its favour has the following

- Slightly better screen
- Full HD video recording
- Higher MPs.
- Support for SDXC cards
- Lower price

So there you have a comparison between the two cameras.
Honestly I don't know why people compare the 550D favorably over the D90 when the advantages of the 550D are pretty insignificant.

The 18 MP vs 12 MP advantage is pretty useless without good glass and especially since most people post their pics on the Internet anyways.
Full HD recording is again not really noticeable unless viewed up close on a big TV screen.
SDHC cards go upto 32 GB and honestly I don't see too many people wanting that.
The only reason IMO to go for it is if you a) Want Canon lenses over Nikon lenses or b) You cannot afford the D90.

D90 wins hands down as suggested by Brendon. Also in contention would be the Canon 60D for 65k with kit lens...
