Need a good net for gaming

Hi i m from Lucknow and need a good net that can give good pings (50-70ms in Indian Servers) and (160-180ms in European Servers). There r only 2 ISP's in my area BSNL and Airtel. Currenty i m using BSNL Broadband Net UL1350 plan but it doesnt give me good pings even when i m getting 15 mbps speed so pls help me whether it would be good to change to airtel, all airtel plans r FUP so would i get good pings with airtel 1699 2mbps plan? Pls help me and also refer me a good modem for gaming price isnt an issue but the modem should give good pings. Thx:)

^^ Airtel rocks for gaming dude dont speak without knowing

I get great ping across TF2 starhub and Crysis 2 Fragnetics servers, 89-109 all the time.

which plan r u using ? Will Impatience 1699 2mbps plan give good pings ?

Have been using Airtel for a few months and it provides the best pings, on bad company 2, in an Indian server I get less then 100 ping, and less then 200 in asian and some EU servers, you wont get any better ping than these.

1Mbps is good enough for gaming.. Anything more than 1Mbps is Not gonna improve the latency..

Airtel FUP is totally messy.. But I believe that there is a 1Mbps plan with 50GB FUP & it costs around 1100 INR..

Regarding the modem, the modem given by Airtel is Not good enough for Gaming.. So even if you buy an awesome WiFi router, the gaming is gonna lag a bit..

So get a WiFi router with built-in modem..

If you have enough money to burn, then get "Linksys WAG320N".. Else settle for Dlink 2640U which costs around 2400 INR and remember that this 2640U is a really old model but its performance is really good when you consider the price/performance ratio..

For gaming both BSNL ans Airtel suck.....
Sorry dude.. In India, Airtel is the Best for Gaming..

Actually you guys are wrong. Best for gaming in India is undoubtedly Reliance.

A friend has a reliance connection and he pings under 55ms to nearly all Indian servers and 65-75ms to SG servers and Under 160ms to Australian servers. Plus no FUP at all, he downloads over 150 gb and uploads the same amount every month and his comp isn't on 24x7.

Although i know the OP doesn't have reliance in his area, but i am just saying.

BTW i am also suffering with BSNL in my area as there is no alternative to it for me.

Which plan he has?

If airtel can give me better pings comparing to BSNL then i should think to switch otherwise there is no use coz with BSNL i m getting around 20mbps speed and download torrents with 800kb/s + airtel plans arent not so good i m mean 2 mbps till 40gb and after that 256kbps @1699 is very annoying :( I heard about ppl in Hyderabad getting 2mbps@999 and awesome pings too :p So getting to the point I usually get 50-70ms ping in all INDIAN servers and 280-300 in Asian and European servers with BSNL but the problem is frequent disconnections and lagg :(,if airtel can give good pings in local and abroad servers better than BSNL then there is a use of it + no lagg.

yes i can buy that router but it should be good :) I was thinking between DLink,Linksys and Netgear but dont know which 1 is good as i m buying a modem 1st time so if there is a good router that can give good ping and reduce lagg better than this then pls tell me :) Thx

1 more thing i want to tell u all that in the start when i got BSNL broadband installed i was getting perfect pings actually suprising pings 40-50ms in all INDIAN servers, 150-170ms in all European servers and 80-90ms in all Asian servers but dont know what happened and now ping to all foreign servers is 320-350ms :( and in INDIAN servers its 60-80ms if anybody know the technical problem then pls tell me i will tell that in BSNL exchange office and may be they good solve it coz their employees doesnt even know what a ping is :( or if changing plan could help me get good ping like the BSNL UL750 plan they say its the best plan and the speed is constant so if anyone using this plan and also airtel user ping this ip 85.131.163.227 and show what the result is :|

I heard that Netgear doesn't have good after sales support in India.. So its better to keep away from Netgear..

I've already mentioned info about WiFi routers with in-built modem in my previous post.. And make sure that you read a lot of reviews before you buy anything..

No idea why BSNL has those problems.. But some of my friends who play online with me always play in RED BAR where as myself & my other friends playing with Airtel have Green Bar (all from the same city)..

which bsnl plan gave you so good pings??? i have Speed Combo 1000 plan that gives 320 ping on asian server :( same on USA server :(

There is so much bull-shit in this thread it's unbelievable.

Ping is completely dependant on the ISP you choose, it has almost nothing to do with the plan you select.

Routing from India is almost universally awful pretty much.

Reliance/mtnl are typically the best but aren't available in most areas.

Airtel pings are almost always worse than both BSNL and reliance. Latencies are routinely 50-60ms higher than even BSNL.

The only plus with airtel is a slightly better jitter/packet loss/line quality.

Here's pings on airtel to a east coast US server:

usually pings to the US are between 330-370ms

Here's the same using BSNL:

Code:
Reply from 66.199.244.82: bytes=32 time=270ms TTL=51

Reply from 66.199.244.82: bytes=32 time=271ms TTL=51

Reply from 66.199.244.82: bytes=32 time=272ms TTL=51

pings to us on bsnl are usually 270-295ms.

The situation is quite similar on EU/Asia. Pings inside India are mostly irrelevant since server's are so close. Also remember there are almost no game servers in India of note since the gaming scene is all but dead.

I'll also link routes used by the above:

If you want to know how a particular ISP is for gaming particularly from the perspective of latency ask people to post specific ping traces or tracerts.

Subjective garbage like "GAIS AIRTEL BESTEST" is poor quality trolling at best or perhaps even viral marketing.

Also remember that most plans nowadays have FUP which is terrible given that most recent multiplayer games push frequent patches/downloads/addons/maps etc that require a decent amount of bandwidth. And any voice chat/skype/vent/mumble app will consume a good chunk of your download quota.

In general my recommendation would be to get a night unlimited (completely unlimited, no fup nonsense) plan for your download needs like, say, BSNL combo 500.

For other stuff during the day get any semi-decent plan from either airtel/reliance as available. Definitely make sure this is at least 1mpbs+.

The above setup also gives a certain degree of reliability since in India outages are commonplace.
