Guys, i stay in kharghar, navi mumbai n for the last few days the temps have gone a bit too high for comfort...not my comfort, my computer's..;) i'm seeing my stock E6300 hovering around 45C at room temps.. only a month back, when it was relatively cold here, the cpu temps idled at 40 C... So i guess, i need to counter this problem...i have 2 options..either i get a normal water cooler or get an AC for my room... Which of the 2 do u think wud be a better option? Money is a factor as, if i save some money here, i cud get myself a ram upgrade to 2 gb..presently have one... so will a cooler suffice?

If not, please suggest me a good AC @ 7-9k approx.. dont need it to be very powerful as my study room (where my pc is) is not too big..its 10x10 feet... so which AC wud do the job for me?

i think you should be better off buying an effective aftermarket cooler and thermal paste rather than an AC considering costs of that and electricity bills in future.

yah..i did consider tht but with each passing day, sitting in my study becomes unbearable... so even if i provide cooling for my cpu, i'll be left huffing n panting..;) So was considering something for both of us..!!

Btw, i got a question about water coolers..is it ok to use 'em in a pc room? i mean, can a humidity n further precipitation cause short circuits in sensitive electronic stuff like mobo?? It may just sound wild but have u ever faced such a situation or heard something like this?

You should know that water coolers are ineffective where atmospheric humidity is high. And Yes, they do significantly increase humidity in the room. I've known of ppl prone to asthma getting affected by it.

I am not sure whether the humidity in Khargar is low enough to use a water cooler effectively but it is definitely a no-no for most of the year in mumbai. Perhaps the only month in which a water cooler is effective in Mumbai is February.

^^ The humidity levels in kharghar seems to be lower..till last month, i was in byculla, so i can feel the difference..;) Actually i too feel tht the water cooler isnt going to be very effective.. tht is why i was thinking of getting a 0.8t AC which shud be enuf for my room...but cant stretch my budget beyond 8-9k at the moment..as i have other things in mind for my pc..

Also where can i get a second hand ac in mumbai..i'd take a look at tht as well? Maybe i'll find something worthwhile thr..wot say? :)

But if i can get a new one around 8-9k, it wud be preferable, instead of goin for a second hand unit..so any suggestions in this price range??

Beg- borrow- steal another 2k and buy a New .8 Ton Voltas Vertis for about 11 K. or something similar. Second hand AC is just that- SECOND HAND

I estimate that what you save on a second hand AC today, you will spend on the higher electricity cost within the first year itself.

ok..i've decided to go for a 1T new ac for my room...i'd gone to NEXT to check out the models..they showed me a Samsung 1T ac for 14k..and said tht had i come on gudi padwa day, i wud have got the same unit for 12k...now is there a catch or something..does it mean tht i can get the model for 12k somewhere? Unfortunately i do not remember the model number.. also, is samsung good or shud i try other brands like voltas or LG?

LG is good too.. have one in my dad's bedroom.. its a .8t.. got it for 10.8k.

Also.. dad bought some chinese brand.. Koryo.. from big bazaar (lower parel) for his wrkshop.. a month back.. .8t for 7.5k !! With 3yrs compressor warranty !!

yeh..have heard of the brand..(in those big bazaar ads :P ) but i'm a bit apprehensive on putting my money into a relatively unknown brand..think, i'll have to choose between Samsung n LG.. btw, hows videocon compared to these two?

Any feedback on Koryo, I saw it in big bazaar and wondering if I could use it for my small three people office. Price is pretty good

Thanks

^^Now even i believe tht i'd rather spend more on a better compressor thn pay the saved amount on maintenance and elec bills. ;) So i think on long term basis, Samsung, LG etc. shud be better option..

Another imp question to look for is lowest electricity consumption.... Energy prices are soaring & AC is a power monger.....
