The aftermath of this thread now requires me to look for a new power supply unit. I require suggestions from fellow members to invest in something that is worthwhile. My rig config is as below:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7 860
  • Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3R
  • RAM: Corsair DDR3 Value RAM
  • Hard drives: 2X1TB Seagate Barracuda| 1X300GB WD VelociRaptor| 1X90GB OCZ Vertex2 SSD| LG DVD-RW Optical Drive (All drives are SATA)
  • Graphic Card: MSI GTX 580
  • Power Supply: Tagan StoneRock Series TG600-U37 (Conked- so looking for a new one)
  • Cabinet: Lian Li Lancool K56
  • Monitor: Samsung P2350 (connected via DVI)

Currently, I am looking at the Seasonic X-850 and the Corsair TX850. The difference between these two psu's is about 4K and the Seasonic is a 80+ Gold certified and the Corsair is a 80+ Bronze certified. I am trying not to exceed the 10K price barrier (the Seasonic is about 11.5k) but if there is no option than 11.5K it will be. However, if any other PSU can perform at par without breaking the bank, I'd love to pick it up.

Looking forward to your suggestions.

Thanks :)

I like the 860XP.... considering that it is a Platinum certified unit. But I have never shopped at hardwire.in, so thinking. Have you ordered anything from there? What's the general consensus about that website?

The Corsair HX850-10.5k OR Seasonic X860-11k is good choice since you're willing to spend more than 10k,No idea about Hardwire.in though other members will give their thoughts.

I've bought some items from him and I'm very satisfied. He'll proactively help you with anything you ask. Pricing is decent. The problem is he takes shipping very seriously and packs the product like even if you drop it from 2 storey building. nothing will happen. Opening package takes upto 20-30 mins.

Great, I like that review. My confidence also built up a little when I googled a bit and found out that his name is Rajiv and he is a mechanical engineer, Linux evangelist and also active on ubuntuforums. Looks like one of us...and his website's tagline says 'Gadgets for Geeks'. Taking the plunge tomorrow :)

Which one are you getting the Corsair seems nice but i am biased just bought a Corsair TX650V2 :P

Just remember warranty is paramount i got the royal flush when my GlacialTech GP AX950AA broke down still trying to get it fixed/changed.

Ordered the Seasonic 860XP (7 years warranty) from hardwire.in. I should be getting it tomorrow. Will keep this thread updated. :)

It's only 11k? OMG that is one hell of a deal for a 80+ Platinum rated unit. :scared14:

I recall I had paid 10k for the 80+ Silver M12D850 during October '09.

Actually, Rs.11,670... but I still feel it's a much better deal than the Corsair AX850 at 13.2K. So I went for this one. Funnily enough, Flipkart has a gold unit for about the same price. I guess, they should recheck their stocks. :)

The 860XP is perhaps the best power supply at the moment for under 12k. Rated well by plenty of reviews.

Pretty sure the power supply will last you for many more upgrades in the years to come. Many congrats in advance! :)
