Need a pre-teen safe browser

My neighbor is looking out for some software which will prevent his young kid (14 yrs old) from surfing pron sites.

Can you recommend any software or browser which will help in this? Something like a word based filters or a software having a blacklist of the sites

The safest browser is the teen himself, if he's inclined to it.

Keep in mind that counselling and healthy conversation are the best way to prevent unsafe browsing. Any blocking software is easily bypassed, unless the parent is always sitting with the teen when he browses.

There are a hundred ways for a curious young mind to satisfy itself (which means that all he needs to do is to find somewhere else to see things), and remember that one lusts after what is kept under lock and key.

I would advise to use blockers (I'm sure you'll get a ton of recommendations), but more than that to talk to the child and counsel him on the effects of adult material on children. That is usually much more effective than just expecting software to bring up children. You know what we were all like when we were 14. Do you honestly think a 30 dollar program is going to stop a 14-year old?

Sorry for going a bit off-tangent.

:) The child is always smarter then the parents...

I agree with Sangram that counselling is the best way...

p.s Parental controls are there with most antivirus softwares too...

Actually, you can block a lot of this stuff yourself from within IE, it isn't that hard... you can block specific sites or keywords.

i bet this 14yr ol kiddie knows as much as we do :P there is no way u can stop him of watching porn...moreover just remember how u felt when ur parents tried to police u in ur teens.

young kid (14 yrs old)

lol!!14 yr olds aren't young anymore.

Blockers....well never used one and not sure how effective they are!

Anyway ask him to install a keylogger to record keystokes.Try System Surveillance Pro 5.5.

14 is hardly young. I am not sure filtering will work on him.
Kidzui is good browser for kids. But it wont be good enough for a 14 year old.

I had gone to visit a cousin of mine (kind of old) who has this 12 year old kid. She was proud to have totally stopped pr0n in her house by using a proxy server on her machine to which the Wifi router was connected (she is a system admin at her company.) Well, alls well.

I am sitting with the youngun and helping him out with his homework for a bit. We decided to look up the info in Wikipedia. On following a link from Wikipedia, we got the block page (because of a bad word in the website url, you know how it is)

I was about to call out to my cuz, but to my amazement, the kid promply opened his Wireless connections, disconnected from his main hom Wifi, connected to a open Wifi which almost had 4 bars, lol and behold, full free Internet.

I didn't report this to my cuz, because I believe, if the kid is smart enough to do that, he is smart enough to keep himself safe.

You can't keep them out. My parents couldn't... and I am sure, its even more difficult now.
