Need a solution to communicate within a house

We live in a two storey house and need a solution where we can communicate upstairs - downstairs and vice versa. We have phones but it's for someone aged and in cases of extreme emergencies. Would be helpful if someone shares any advice.

Use Alexa drop feature should be able to work. It can help if you use echo dot as an intercom.
See below links should help.

Looking for a simple solution. It's for my dad actually who is aged and won't be very comfortable with these tech. I was thinking about walkie talkies, any idea?

Walkie talkies are illegal unless you have a licence.
Licence free walkie talkies have rules such as only a specific frequency should be used (PMR 446) and should not have detachable antennas. Whether these are enforced is a different question, but I would suggest a lot of research before choosing this.

Moreover walkie talkies have to be charged. I would suggest a device that is plugged into mains electricity but has a battery such that when/if the power goes out, you still have some kind of access.

Do you require voice? Or is it more like an alarm/notification that someone is looking for you?

I have used a similar item like this few years back. This is however a corded intercom. Just have to lift one end and it rings at other end. Also if you are looking for wireless intercom you can buy a cordless phone like below which will have handset to handset intercom. This can be used as wireless intercom without phoneline but costwise the price is more.

That's a feasible idea in my situation. Alarm/ buzzer would work. It's anyways for dire emergencies.

I googled it up and seems it has pretty good options. Relatively cheaper. Thank you so much for this idea!

Thanks, but seems the buzzer solutions works best for me. Way cheaper under 600 bucks.

If it's emergency use, like someone falls or has a medical issue that prevents them from moving, an intercom or walkie type of thing wouldn't be helpful since it requires you to get up and go to the device. The Alexa thing would be better.

There are elderly friendly Android interfaces too. If the caregivers can make sure the phone is charged, and accessible all the time, the hassle of Android phones is minimal.

I've tried Big Launcher a few years ago, it was ok. Slightly buggy, but didn't matter for casual use. It can be configured to have a single button on the screen, to call the primary caregiver, with no other distractions.
