Hello Everyone!

I have decided to upgrade my system and need your help in choosing the best VFM GPU. That however doesn't mean you can't suggest other components also. :) The parts below are mostly a collection of stuff different people have recommended in these very forums.

So far what I have is:

Intel Core i7 (preferably D0 stepping)
Gigabyte GA EX58 UD3R
Seagate Barracuda 500GB
Corsair TR3X6G1600-C9 6GBKit
Zebronics Bijli
Palit GF GTS250 512MB
Real Power Modular 620W

Is the GTS250 good enough for this system? Is there a cheaper card that can give me near the same (or better :ohyeah: ) performance? Oh, my GPU budget is 10K. Can be stretched to 11-12 if it's worth it. :D

Also, do you get Patriot RAM in Nehru Place? I saw a 6GB Patriot kit on newegg and it was way cheaper than the Corsair is gonna cost me and better timings too.

One last thing, considering that I don't plan to OC (yet :D) will the stock CPU Cooler do?

Thanks in advance for all your help!

hello :)

there are a few changes you should definitely make...

Intel Core i7 (preferably D0 stepping)

Gigabyte GA EX58 UD3R------ look at UD5

Seagate Barracuda 500GB ----- 7200.12 if possible.

Corsair TR3X6G1600-C9 6GBKit

Zebronics Bijli --------------NO WAY !!!!! you need a much better case !!!!!

Palit GF GTS250 512MB------gtx 260 for 11K !!!!

Real Power Modular 620W

cheers bro

im sure more changes are going to follow..

this is just to get things started :P

As said before, GTX 260 as well as HD4870 are within your budget of 12k.

If you are not going to overclock, you can roughly save another 1k by going for Biostar Tpower x58. I have had chance to play with it few days ago and even while ocing, its more than capable board. For stock operation, it should do just fine and it is more feature rich than UD3R.

Also about RAM.

Import the following kit through KMD. No point in paying idiotic amounts for Corsair locally.

OCZ OCZ3P1600LV6GK 6GB PC3-12800+ (DDR3-1600+) Triple Channel Memory Retail at ZipZoomfly

Money saved on all these parts can be invested in better cooler or better cabinet.

My suggestion:

Cire i7 i920 D0 @ 14.8k
MSI X58 PRO(gr8 performer) @ 10.8k
Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 500GB @ 3.1k
CM Elite 334 @ 1.8k (w/o PSU)
Corsair VX550W @ 5.8k(or lesser)
G.Skill F3-10666 CL7T - 6GBPK @ 12.7k
PowerColour HD4890 1GB GDDR5 @ 15k

If u're not going for a good GPU, y r u spending soo much on i7 itself?

Thank you all for your replies, with a nod to toolius, antz123 and com@ddict. :)

The MSI is cheaper than the Biostar board is it not? Also, how many PCI-e slots does the Biostar have (for possible later SLI)?

I'll prolly go for the GTX 260 (Palit Sonic) as suggested by an overwhelming number of people! Dunno why I was under the impression that it costs way more than the 250 GTS. Reading too many reviews confused the prices in my head prolly. :D Just wondering how it compares to the PowerColour HD4890 1GB GDDR5 suggested by comp@ddict.

I think the Palit 260 GTX sells for about Rs.12.5K. Is the PowerColour HD4890 1GB GDDR5 worth the extra 3K?

No. GTX 260 should suffice.
To be honest, once you go beyond the GTX 260, most cards will perform equally if you enable vsync. (Unless you are running games at above 1920x1080 that is)

Spend the extra 3k on some killer games.

I would not suggest you to go with msi boards, they have high IOH temperatures unless you have no problem removing heatsink and applying thermal paste yourself.

gtx 260 is a decent card. If you can stretch your budget to 13K probably ati 4770 in crossfire might also be a good option. I would be getting them tomorrow :).

cm690 or cmstorm are good cabinets, though you might need to buy another higher cfm side fan. I have been using it for 4 months.Bought 2 90cfm cm led fans as side and front fans.

If u see the "hardware canucks" review, you'll see that the HD4890OC(900MHz COre and 1GHz memory) actually beats the GTX275 with nre drivers and everything. And it's much much getter than GTX260 as it's power consumption is lesser too(it's less than HD4870s by quite some thing).

And I saw a recent review where I saw the HD4870 and GTX260 trailing way behind GTX275(thnx to very low core/shader clocks of GTX260) and it's really no match for the latter.

Given a choice, I wud go for HD4890 w/o doubt. NO wonder almost all polls ion most internationally acclaimed hardware/technology sites have results in favour of HD4890 as the best current card, as opposed to GTX260 in 2nd place, an dGTX275 at 3rd.
