I am contemplating buying a new PSU depending on my usage pattern. The choices are amongst Corsair TX850, Corsair HX850, or SeaSonic X-850.

Currently my rig is powered by a 600W Tagan Stonerock TG600-U37 and consists of the following components:

Core i7 860
Gigabyte GA55 UDR3
Corsair Value RAM 4GB
MSI Twin Frozr II 6950 2GB
Asus Xonar D2X
LG DVD writer
2 x 2TB Seagate
1 x 300GB WD VelociRaptor

All of this is housed in a Lian-Li K56 cabinet. I am soon upgrading from the 6950 2GB to a GTX 580. Future upgrade will include a GTX 580 SLi.

Now, the questions.

1. Will the current Tagan 600W suffice for a single GTX 580? It has two 12V rails rated at 22A each. The NVIDIA website recommends a 600W power supply.

2. Of the power supplies mentioned above, the Seasonic is 80+ Gold certified and the Corsair HX is 80+ Silver certified. Will that make a difference?

3. My budget is a max of 10K so any other PSU available locally which can fit in this budget (or cost less) and perform equally well or better? I know of the Enermax 920 but I'm not sure it is available here.

I'd like fellow members suggestions on this issue. I will probably pick up the PSU and the UPS this Saturday so quick responses will really be appreciated. Thanks :)

.....M using a single GTX 580, with my CPU and GPU both OC'ed with increased volts, and find my 2-3 years HX620 adequate...

SO if thats any thing to go buy you will be fine....

All the 3 mentioned PSU's are fine if you really wanna upgrade.....Pick one and take it....I'd probably take the seasonic...

Your current one should work well.But if you got money,spend it on either TX or HX.But HX would be a little bit better than the TX and it's got more warranty too I guess.

You have 54A cumulative over the three 12V rails on your PSU. I have 44A. Wouldn't it be too close for comfort for the 580? :huh:

There is a general misconception regarding the graphic cards have its own amperage rating given by manufacturer and accordingly needs a PSU that can handle the card. There is no such thing, what the manufacturers want to convey is that your system (prolly a PSU) should be capable of delivering 25A to be on safe safe. In other words, 25A is an amperage meant for whole system and not for a single card. let me clear here

TDP of HD6850 is 125W, use P=VA

125 = 12*A

A = ~ 10.5

The card will utilize only ~ 10.5A on 100% load (say with Furmark). It has been seen that, gaming stresses the card up to 80%. So, your card will utilize only ~ 8.4A from CX400 while gaming.

I'd say CX400 will surely handle your system with ease. :)

TX850 is a CWT built power supply why not go in for the tx850v2 this is a seasonic unit and much more effiecent than v1. Also check out Seasonic.X-760km very well built modular ps.
