Actually ,my friend was planning for a trip to US on or after 8th of Aug for some business meeting and he intend to get a MBP 15" from there .

Now,
The price on the Apple's website is some $2300 with Apple care protection plan.
BUT
I've noticed on eBay US , a lots of deals are going on for the new MBPs with apple care potection plan for as less as $1575.

Now ,I'm confused with what source of purchase should i suggest him to adopt. eBay would be problematic as they need ebay users with more than 5-6 feedback to be able to bid and a paypal account of US as origin , he has neither of them.

So any pointers of any particular place in NY where the purchase should be carried out other than the outrageously priced apple stores ( or do they vary from the online apple pricing.) . will customization for the laptop be done on the spot or does it take time for it to be assembled by apple because he plans to stay in NY for 8 days before leaving to other states for the holiday.

This would be the first trip to US for my friend too and he is totally confused about this.

please add in any more points if you feel appropriate.

@ Stalker

What suits me is the fact that search engine is not the ultimate solution to every query.

Or is it ? My phone got lost yesterday, any suggestions on what search engine i must use ? :P

I have quite a few friends in US , not particularly in NY though , I'll ask a few of them about it and let you know. Meanwhile,is your friend adamant on the purchase of a macbook ?

Buy it from Apple, buy Applecare and be worry free... if he's really too tight on budget, check refurbished options from Apple Store.

Personally, I don't prefer ebay, unless someone I know has prior experience with particular seller... being in another country is definitely no-no for ebay.

I remember you PMing me regarding the MBP question, I suppose this is the same friend?

^ Yes Yogi, this is the same friend. With your advice i've made him to buy this particular machine over a pimped Dell Latitude :D . Thanks once again

Like i was checking out the listings at Macmall.com and the prices are coming out to be way cheaper than what the apple store is offering.

The only thing is that i dont want to loose on a deal which can save me trans $500 and feel bad about it later ..

Otherwise , its Apple store/macmall all the way , i have ruled out the eBay as an option as i have concluded that the deal on eBay is not feasible in terms of reliablity.

Yeah, Macmall is a good option... the best time to buy from Macmall is holiday season as they usually have great deals on latest machines in that period. I've personally seen (and one friend from US has bought) discounts greater than $250-$300 last Christmas. I haven't checked it lately, but earlier I noticed that other period of time they don't carry good discounts on latest machines.

Anyway, if your friend is getting really good discount on even 1-generation-low machines than current, in MacMall... go ahead and make a buy.
