Need advice regarding shipping

Hey TE
I didn't know where to post this hence posting it in the General Talk forum. I'm shifting to Bangalore (from Jaipur) and want to take my rather expensive set-up with me (Monitor + Cabinet + disassembled setup + playstation). I talked to a local DTDC courier partner and he said that no courier service offers insurance on used items. Delhivery allows only 50,000 as the maximum declared value (and offers a payout of 25,000 on that).

Has anyone ever shipped such precious cargo before?

Why not carry yourself in plane the cabinet and xbox if not all items?
Or ship them individually and you can get insurance almost 80-80% on each items.

I used DTDC's luggage shipping service when I was relocating to India about five years ago. I booked it from my port of entry and took a cheap flight home. It was around Rs 10k for >100kg (I don't remember the details). It had my desktops, monitors, homelab, and lots of clean laundry. Probably around 200k worth of hardware that I collected over a decade. Everything was packed in hard shell suitcases by myself. Monitors were in their original sytrofoam/thermocol. It took about a week to arrive halfway across India with nothing missing or broken.

Insurance is always a gamble so I went with a lower-risk option. If you pack it well enough to survive an international flight, it should survive surface shipping within India. Lots of layers of foam with hard shell suitcases.

Edit: I hand-carried all of the SSDs.

The combined weight is probably around 15-20 Kg of all the items packed in individual boxes.

What about theft?

Apart from the weight issue, the monitor is more expensive than whatever any courier service allows

That's what the laundry is for. Plus the hardshell suitcases are usually a deterrent, even more so when you have them wrapped in plastic wrap. Also, booking time is important, I did it early in the morning as soon the place opened — I actually had to wait for the owner to come open the shutter. This way it is shipped the same day and there isn't much time for idle hands and eyes to get curious. I also paid in cash, so that kept the owner happy for the few hours until pickup was done. Once it's en route, the only worry is making sure you pick it up from the local office as soon as it reaches, which I did. I didn't wait for doorstop delivery.

As someone who gets transferred from one city to another every 2 years, I take my PC with me. I carry the main monitor with me in the box. I have a big suitcase in which I put my cabinet (with GPU removed) surrounded by clothes and a keyboard. Mouse, and GPU along with wires in my carry bag. The rest of the stuff like the second monitor is packed and shipped in a big box along with other household stuff. I travel by train tho when shifting cause flights are not great for travelling with 2 bags. You can perhaps take the laptop bag and screen as a carry-on and the Cabinet bag as a check-in.
