hi guys,
Need some advise. I have Acer Aspire 5745 with core i5 and 3 gb ddr3. My lappy has 2 slots (2gb + 1 gb installed). laptop is mainly for internet, movies, downloading and very rarely DOTA. Ddr3 prices are very cheap right now. 750 for 2gb and 1250 for 4Gb.

Am confused, should i upgrade to 4/8 gb or its a waste of money for me?

If you are running a 32bit OS it doesn't make sense upgrading .If the machine is running 64bit OS and you are feeling itchy to purchase just because the prices are low go ahead do it.

Ya i have been using 64 bit for a long time and yes the itch is there , hehe. Thats what i am planning also but the only point is that i dont think i need that much ram.

yes upgrade the ram to 8 gigs.its the best way to future proof your laptop.the golden rule is to always max out the ram of your system if you are going to keep it for the long term.64 bit systems will give you better performance with more ram.2.5k will go a long way as a system upgrade.do it right now so you can get decent pricing and sell off your 3 gb ram.

just to give you a perspective,i bought my dell laptop 4 years ago-the common ram was 512 mb or even 1gb max.i maxed it to 2gb that time and now am able to run windows 7 very well on it.if i were to upgrade today ddr2 ram is considerably more expensive than ddr3.i am using applications now that end up using even 1.8 gb of my ram .4 years ago i thought 2gb was overkill.
