I have a E8400 with stock HSF, currently I'm using Intel DP35DP mobo, but I'm swapping it for a used P45 based board from Gigabyte.
Now the thing is I feel that my stock HSF is dying, the temps were soaring up recently so I re-applied the thermal paste(Tuniq TX2), but I don't see any difference, also the fan is running as if it's gonna die soon.
So I want to buy a basic replacement HSF, which should give me a little room for OC(not now, after a while when I have time to fry my CPU at it's EOL). Also I would be upgrading in a few months so I don't want to spend much on the HSF now.

Initially I had CM TX3 evo in mind, but then again I thought it would be too much for my setup right now. So I though of trying the Deepcool Gammaxx 200 instead.
But after researching for a while, I understood that for a HSF to work well, my cabinet's airflow should be ideal as well, which I doubt in my iBall workhorse cabinet.
So I had a change of plans and thought of this setup, a Evercool FOX3 3.5" drive blower, which I want to use it to suck air into the case as there are no front fans in my case. Then I want to go for a basic HSF like the Deepcool Gamma Archer and hopefully the rest of the hot air will be blown out by my PSU, VX450's Fan.

The main thing is that I want this upgrade to be as cost effective as possible, as I will be upgrading later to a better setup, then I'll upgrade the HSF as well. So do you think my plan is good, going for the blower+hsf combo as of now? Please suggest.

This is cost effective and should work better than your stock heatsink. Theitdepot - Deepcool Intel Socket CPU Cooler (ALTA7) or a little better cooler : DeepCool GAMMAXX200 92MM UNIVERSAL CPU COOLER
Hey thanks for the reply, but the one you mentioned ALTA7 has a 92mm cooler with ~40cfm max airflow where as the one I planned Gamma Archer has a 120mm fan with ~55cfm max airflow, So I guess the latter would be better.
If I'm going for a hsf alone, I would get a Gammaxx 200, but since I don't have any air intake fans, my plan was to use the Evercool blower + Gamma Archer.

Gamma archer looks better and has better airflow means a little lower temps. But where will you get it ? I checked online shops , couldn't find the model.

I got intel stock hsf for sale if you interested you can take it.. I used it for 1yr after since i had tx3 was lying idle..http://www.techenclave.com/sell-trade-products/clearance-sale-ddr2-1gb-ram-133831/
Thanks for the offer, but sorry buddy :)

The link was in my first post ;)
Here again >> DEEPCOOL GAMMA ARCHER CPU Cooler for Intel Socket 1155/1156, LGA775 & AMD | eBay

^^
It turns out my cabinet has no provision for 120mm fans, no chance of LC unless I change my Cabinet. I'll stick to my initial plan then :P

Much better, max temps never crossed 70c even on full load, earlier it used to shoot upto 85c,not much difference in idle temps though.

Forgot to edit my earlier post, I initially ordered Gamma Archer and Two LED Fans from Flipkart, but they kept delaying my order citing various issues, so I cancelled the order and a placed a fresh order for Gamma archer from Tirupati enterprises via eBay and a 6 in 1 pack of Cooler master 80mm fans from It depot.

Thought of posting here instead of starting a new thread as i had a similar question.
The stock cpu fan has become very noisy, especially its irritating at night when i leave it on for downloading. My mother keeps warning me that its going to blow up one of these days! :P
So i thought of buying a cheap cooler for it that i can reuse on a ~G620 or i3-2100 build im planning sometime soon. So which one of these would be a better option:

Deepcool Alta 7 | Cooler | Flipkart.com
Deepcool ALTA 9 | Cooler | Flipkart.com
Deepcool GAMMA ARCHER | Cooler | Flipkart.com

Low noise and decent cooling are required. I think the gamma archer is the most silent according to spec mentioned also cooling should be good because of the 120mm fan, but it kas a very small coin like contact surface! wont this reduce cooling performance in case i need it?

If you are not planning to over clock your cpu, then Gamma Archer is more than enough. But it you have any plans of ocing in the future when you upgrade your rig, then it's better to get something like CM TX3, EVO etc.

Or else get a Gamma Archer now, which should solve the noise issues for the time being. After you upgrade, if you find the need for better cooling then you can upgrade.

Thanks sriharsha,
i will get the archer for now as you have suggested.
Does it come with thermal paste or do i have to buy my own?
