Need an Android phone! Max 12k.

12k is actually a very stretched max. Still, might be able to spend that much. I'm willing to buy an under warranty used phone too.

So which options do I have? I do need a capacitative touch screen, my experience with resistive has been shitty.

IMO The best option I see is the LG Optimus One. What do you guys think?

LG Optimus One is the one to go for. Best Android phone as of now under 15k, with rumours of Gingerbread update being available in the future as well.

ZTE Blade is slightly better, need to be imported from UK with no warranty, at around 8.5k. It has 480x800 resolution 3.5in screen as against HVGA 3.2in of LG.

LG optimus will surely be getting the gingerbread update now, so it has become a better deal now if you don't wanna compromise on the warranty..

Someone has mentioned that LG might not provide a 2.3 update as it requires 1GHz proccy.

And with that I go back into cell phone indecision limbo.

That was a controversy created by an LG rep on Facebook. Gingerbread is a small update and it doesn't require 1 GHZ proccy by any stretch of imagination.

Later LG confirmed that they are indeed working on Gingerbread for Optimus series phones.

Go for it, it's the best deal you can get officially in India as of now.
