So now I have ATP3 (bought today itself) :ohyeah: and a laptop with realtek high definition audio :ashamed:
I need an external sound card. Please suggest some. Music is my only concern.

Edit- oh and any usage tips would be appreciated.. like placement or anything. Damn, this thing punches the floor.. I hope the seniors living in the room below me dont come up shouting that their roof is vibrating.

Its better to place the satellites on wooden surface as they are down firing... and wait for a week or 2 for the bass to increase...

Get yourself a SB Live or an Audigy Value. should be more than sufficient for a 2.1 setup.

Hehe.. no worries soon I would a senior too. and lots of people have big speakers here.. some have even brought their HiFi setups.

i think the creative stuff should be easily available like the audigy2 nx or the live 24bit external.. creative have a pcmcia audigy2 too but havent seen it locally so far

Err... Lord Nemesis, I think you missed the fact that Renegade has a laptop :P

oops..:ashamed: yes my mistake.

See if you can kind the PCMCIA version of Audigy 2 ZS. But it would be damn costly in India. Even if you find it, it would be priced like 5~6k. I dont know any other external solution which might be better than the inbuilt sound.

hmmm.. k ill look up external usb cards by creative
and why does the atp sound like a noise box on high volumes.

what genre you listen to.. :bleh: the hindi tracks and trance sounds fine at higher volume but the metal/rock doesnt.

you mean your atp3 distorts at highest volumes ? that just shouldnt happen ...

give it a week or 2 to break in... u wud definetely feel the better sound quality after it breaks in...

Well, I used to listen to Gavin Rossdale, Linkin park and metallica at high volumes, and it was never particularly bad.

many onboards distort at high vols :bleh:

at least my onboard realtek alc650 sounds much worse at max volume than in between. that problems just isnt there for my audigy...

Sarkar, Huzoor!!
Kya horrible ho aap!!

Should have posted in showoff with ATP3 pics na and i was left searching and wondering where the hell u posted it on TE!!:ashamed:

Anyways, congrats!!:hap2:

Someone was selling a creative audigy2 NX external usb SC in TE Market!!
About its features, value, performance, you know who all to contact b4 u buy it!!

And for the wooden surface, just get hold of a thin plank of dry wood or dry, stiff plywood about the same size as the horizontal circumferential footprint of your subwoofer so that all 4 legs of it rest on it w/o the risk of wobbling off!!:ashamed:

And yeah, listening to 'tere bin' as i type this!!:D

Chaos had a M-Audio Audiophile for sale which is certainly a much better bet than the Audigy 2 NX for your 2.1 setup...

Though having said that, with the ATP3 (which is a nice 2.1 undoubtedly), I am not sure how noticeable a difference would you find with a high end audio card

So perhaps you may want to do a A/B test between a CD player connected to your ATP3 , and your laptop's onboard playing the same CD ripped to it....

If you can't find a dedicated CDP, even a Sony/Panny Discman's line out would be a good test tool, as the DACs on the line out for most decent Discmans are of comparable quality to the DACs on mid-end external sound cards like the Creative Audigy ...

SO I suggest do a simple A/B listening test, preferably a blind test by asking someone else to take the call ...if he/she can make out noticeable difference, then only should you go ahead and plonk the effort and the cash for an external Snd card

Naa me not selling my audiophile... its good as an SPDIF source for me :P. Audigy2 NX has crap sound quality... worse than an SB Live 24bit heh.

I second chaos' opinion here. if music is ur concern stay away from creative unless u wanna waste money.. thought I don't have much deep knowledge abt soundcards yet but creative isn't that good at anything other than games alone. try n grab M-audio, ESI or there are some other brands dedicatedly for that.
