MOD: Please, though it is not related to 'technology' but it is very important for me and my mother. Hope you understand my 'mental status', pls... make it a 'STICKY' till she gets well.



Dear TE Dctors,

I need an urgent help/suggestion from you.

Yesterday night at about 1am. my mother had a bad cheast pain. So, hospitalised at SSKM (old name P.G.) Govt-Hospital, Kolkata.

According to her, the pain was not on the left-side but middle.

Her E.C.G was quite irregural (though I don't understand, but the patterns).

Today, she is quite OK. tols me that the pain is still there but very very low.

The Dr told me and my father that, we may have to go for -

1st ENDOSCOPE to find any blockage.

then either of these -

0 ENDO-BLAST

0 Pacemaker

0 By-pass

Dr and we both are giving priority to ENDO-BLAST.

But, please suggest me with your kind suggestions

and, from where should I do the operation in Kolkata ? what is the total aprox charge ?

We are a middle-class family and love my parents so much that though I got chance of MBA in Hydrabad, I refused.....

I will post my mother's condition everyday for regular updates.

and other TE members pls, PRAY for her.

Update :

Here is the BLOOD Report done on the very same day when she was admitted (on 15th, Friday)

HbsAg [ELISA] NOT DETECTED i.e. normal

T3 138.3 ng/dl within normal range

T4 11.35 microgram/dl within normal range

TSH 0.84 micro IU/ml. within normal range

CHOLESTREROL 180 mg/dl within normal range

TRIGLYCERIDES 125 mg/dl within normal range

Thats all....

And even bigger thing that is killing me - my father who is with high-suger and low-preasure, doing so much, but I, educated-son, still can do 'anything', not a single thing that can reduce the preasure. I have just completed MCA, not yet emplied....

dude , u need to a angiography done,
depending on the blocks..u hv percutenous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)which generaly comprises of ballon dilatation of the blocked artery, sometimes a stent can b combined wid ballooning.
2. coronary artery bypass grafting.... which uses a vein as graft commonly internal thoracic or sephaneous vein.. generally not done1st time.
3. pace maker is only fr angina or MI complicated by arrythmias feel free to ask.. i ll help asmuch as i can..

hummer has given a nice and swift explanation.

what your mother has suffered from is most likely UNSTABLE ANGINA. (thats is fluctuating chest pain due to irregular blood supply to heart).

this occurs due to blockage of arteries of heart with cholesterol.

the ways of treatment are :
diagnosis : Angiography (CAG) : this is mentioned by you as endoscopy.
this is will give the doctor an idea of extent and amount of blockage involving single or multiple artteries.

according to the results of the Angiography you need to take the treatment course.

which can be
Angioplasty : its dilatation of the blocked blood vessel via inserting a stent (balloon) and keeping it there so the lume does not get blocked again.

CABG : (bypass surgery in common terms) : it is done if the blockage is severe i mean near 100% and in multiple vessels. here the blocked pathways is bypassed by way of transplanting a new blood vessel harvested either from chest / arm / leg.

Pacemaker : (in tech terms you can call it a regulator PSU of the heart) : usefull only when the heart beats are irregular or not enough powerfull then it can regulate the heart by way of incorporating external currrent in magnitudes of microvolts.

NOW COMES THE REAL PART :
cardiology is not my field of speciality. So as a friend i can advise you about what are the ways ahead ans the outcome. You have to trust your incharge doctor there as he is the best person to judge the condition of the patient.

THIS KIND OF HEART diseases or ailments are usually arising because of our lifestyle.

High intake of fat loaded diet coupled with decreased physical activities are the preemptive factors about it. I do not know about your family physical stature so not sure about hereditory elemant in it.

but a vast majority of the patients suffer from the bad habits and low attendance to physical unrest.

as you said you are the only son and enducated one.
i woudl say you have to take charge of the situation and be calm. everything be well in a matter of days.

After your mother is fine and back at home you need to change your family lifestyle as both your parents require light fat free diet in multple small feed a day. You must become strict and ban the high cholesterol food, decrease the usage of sugar.

also make a point to force every one to do physical exercises in form of walk, jogging, gym visit.

And lastly a brotherly advise : If you want to conquer the disease never be afraid of it. Always face and stare it with a smiling confident faca and half the battle is won.

Ps: i do not have faintest idea of hospitals of Kolkatta. but there must be some good government and corporate heart hospitals there.
I think Udit may be in a good position to help you out in this regard.

for heart related stuff there is only one great hospital 'B.M. Birla'

for other stuff there is 'AMRI' & 'Apollo'

i was in 'AMRI' for 3 months & because of them iam alive in front of you all & posting
 
BTW, does ur mom have mediclaim policy.?? these things cost a lot of money.

if you were in mumbai we could have helped you out with all our ability, however limited it may be.
