Will be watching Harry Potter and the deathly hallows this weekend :), so planing to watch in Big Cinemas-Imax screen, Wadala Mumbai. I will be watching there 1st time in IMAX so how is the review/feedback of IMAX screen at Wadala. Is it worth the money spend there :huh::huh:

Which is the best seat to book to get the best experience on IMAX screen.

I had gone to Imax Dome theater twice and its superb but I haven't visited recently since 2 years after PVR was opened near my area

The current IMAX screen is smaller and flatter than the previous dome screen. Now dome is only from outside and not from inside (screen perspective). I had watched couple of documentary type films in older dome screen and the experience was really impressive. Even watched dark knight and those IMAX scenes really lit up the screen.

But last i watched avatar in IMAX 3D and could hardly find any difference in watching in a normal theater and IMAX screen.

This new screen is a big let down IMO.

I suggest better watch at a theater near your home and dont spend more on IMAX as it is hardly dome any more. Not recommended.

Dome has been demolished my friend told me....now they just have IMAX screen....
DOME is still there, i have been there few months back. It was supposed to be demolished but BIG cinemas took over and screwed up the screen :-[

I feel there is no IMAX experience now, just normal movie watching experience.

For anyone who has seen the ACTUAL DOME screen in action would second my thoughts.

Could be raksrules.....but while booking on bookmyshow, we get 2 options for booking 1)IMAX screen Wadala 2)IMAX Wadala so they must be having IMAX screen showing IMAX print....

^^ Yes but the thing that they are advertising as IMAX screen is no longer dome in shape as it used to be. It is only bit curves and more of like a larger than normal theater screen.

And yes IMAX Wadala means normal screen in the multiplex while IMAX Screen is the single IMAX screen that they have there

well yeah...i second that.... the actual dome screen was amazing had seen mysteries of egypt, blue planet and some more movies made only for imax dome screen...had seen long back that is b4 bigcinemas took over.

after that had seen dark knight and inception...but was disappointed as i saw a huge flat screen placed b4 the actual dome one....but in my opinion it was better than wht we c in normal theaters.

i saw in flat screen only....they had initially released dome version of dark knight only in hyd....they released in mumbai dome after a long tym its release in normal screens.i saw the movie smetime in june 09.

and @irfanlai avoid the front seats at anycost....u will only get ur neck sprained.

It's like this....

The new IMAX screen is definitely smaller compared to the DOME (ain't that obvious?)

But at the same time, the new IMAX screen is definitely bigger than regular multiplex screens.

I saw Harry Potter (previous one) and Inception on IMAX screen and the experience was good. I had seen Apollo 13 previously in DOME screen and in my personal opinion, while the experience was nice it was definitely not good for full length movies. 40-50 mins IMAX movies were great to watch in DOME, but watching anything over 1:30 mins was... how can I put it... tiring, maybe? or overdone?

I like the new IMAX screen, but I definitely feel that they should cut down the ticket prices as against the same charges when the DOME screen was being used. If the same movie running in regular screen for 150 bucks, then 200 bucks for IMAX screen makes sense (given the size and the sound stage). But it's definitely not good spending double of regular screen.

However, Inception was worth watching on IMAX screen... thanks to the brilliant background score by Zimmer (I know, I should say worth hearing). :P

As for the best seat... I would say, close radius to the old IMAX dome projector box. Seats anywhere near to that box, especially two rows above or below are great for viewing distance and screen perspective. Also, I think this area also falls under the sweet spot of IMAX sound stage.

Those 45 min documentaries that they showed on the old dome screen were really awesome. That was the true imax experience. I also watched spiderman 3 on the dome but it was awful because the movie was not shot in that format. They were simply projecting the normal movie reel onto a sphere. But since then they have stopped projecting on the dome altogether. So now it's basically a normal movie theater with big screen and great audio.

Thanks iGo this is what i needed....great review......just couldn't make out the best seat position.....

Sorry for the late post...saw hp7 in imax n my experience was great. The theatre is amazing, screen is huge n i had aewsome experience.
Will surely go in future to watch a good 3D movie.
Recomended seat is the last row in centre....
